FWIW- I would double check the brakes aren't too big.
On 03 4Runners, only the SE has larger brakes. You can't fit smaller than 17" alloys. all other 4Runners can run 16". Seems like Toyota isn't the greatest at advertising some of their upgraded features.

I have the Dunlop AT20's stock. They are ok but the tread depth is very shallow and I don't think longevity is good.

Everyone seems to rave about the Revo AT's. I do see ALOT of trucks/suv's with them.

I also heard the BFG's get noisy/slippery as they wear--but no firsthand experience. They look good tho- and alot of good reviews...

I had Michelin LTX M/S on my LC as original equipment, they were smooth riding and not that good in the snow ( I live on a private road that is very very very steep, when you are climbing it all you see is sky out the front window :) ) At 60K miles I switched to the BFG AT/KO's, they were noisier, better traction and when I sold my LC at around 140K miles (80K on the BFG AT/KO's) they still had 2/3 of the thread left on them. This was on a 95 FZJ80. I have the Michelin SUV Cross Terrains on my 2004 4runner SE and they are heavily siped, which is what you need for snow. I have heard from other Cross Terrains owners that they are great in the snow but are not Off road AT tires. I think the decision on tires needs to be made based on where you will be taking your LC.

I agree that the tire selection should be based on the intended purpose of the vehicle, but there's gotta be a "general purpose, all-around, good tire" that looks good and performs well.

I always thought that about BFGs, but on this forum Bridgestone's Revos and Nitto Grapplers seem to be the tire of choice. Am I way off on this?

Still looking for replacements for the Michelin "Multi season" tires that seem to be slippin' 'n sliddin' in the snow!

P.S.

I plan to do mainly highway driving, but in Central New York vehicles of all shapes and sizes seem to gravitate toward the snow banks and ditches along the side of the road!?!

When trying to come up with a username, I enlisted the help of my 7 year old. Her favorite book is "EsioTrot" by Roald Dahl (yes, about a tortoise).

Tyler, Roald Dahl also has another book called "The Twits" if you wanted to change your username! :D  :D
