Wheel/tire fitment questions

I am having an Icon stage1 kit installed on my 2015.

I wanted the icon Six Speed 17s installed with 285/70-17 KO2s

My local shop is saying that icon says that tire is too wide for their lift. With that offset and backspace...

He's thinking I should get a more narrow tire to be sure we have no problems.

Is that true? Or can I go ahead with the 285 tire?

Wrong. No problems with that tire size even 100% stock. I'd find another shop.

I have used this shop for other builds, they do great work.

A 285 tire is 11.5 inches.

I am in East Texas where the majority of their work is Domestic Pickups on 20s. So admittedly they aren't too familiar with the 200 series. But they do great work, and I hunt with the owner.

If you’re going to trust the owner instead of the collective body of people who actually know the 200 inside and out like we do here, by all means go ahead. But you asked the question and the information is here in many threads going back a decade showing not only does that tire fit, Toyota lists it as the recommended tire for the 200 on a Rock Warrior wheel.

BFG TA KO2 on 285/70R17 is the stock size recommended by Toyota for the Rock Warrior wheels on the Tundra, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser. They will fit fine

Apologies if that came off too strong. I have to admit I get more annoyed than I should when I see a question asked for the millionth time, and the question if that specific tire will fit stock has occurred too many times to count. It can be frustrating to see the same questions about tire size, AHC, blah blah blah get asked on a regular basis with the same answers while more tech heavy stuff gets ignored and buried.

Six speed only has 25mm offset. RWs have 50mm offset. Not sure if this will be germane or not, as I didn't compare the backspacing, and eliminated the six speed early on in my search as i didn't want to fuss with spacers and trimming.

That tire will for sure fit with RWs.

25mm offset is 1” wider stance on either side, which means the tire follows a slightly wider arc when you turn. I have 34s and needed to remove the mud flaps and do a bit of trimming, but 33s would have fit without issue

I just installed the Icon Six Speed Wheels on my '13 with 285/75r17 BFG KO2s. I do NOT have my lift installed yet, but did just install my TJM T13 front bumper. The TJM eliminated any rubbing in the front of the front tires and I only have minor rubbing in the rear of the front tires after removing the mud flap. So the smaller tires should have no issues!

@BVCOTaco any rubbing on the passenger-side sway bar? That's the one spot mine rub, enough so that I have to back off the wheel slightly on a full lock left turn. I can see where it's rubbing because that spot is shiny now

You can get rid of the one spot you're rubbing by hitting the metal bracket that's behind the plastic liner with a mallet a few times, or pull the plastic back and trim it with some shears. Even with the lift you'll likely have to deal with that spot as the lower offset causes minor rubbing there, unless you push your caster extremely positive past the Toyota spec.

@linuxgod I will have to crawl under and check. I am being careful not to turn at full lock right now until I get the lift. Then I will run it through its paces and figure out if any trimming is necessary. The BFG KO2's in 285/75R17 are supposed to be a little smaller than the Nitto RG's, so I am hopeful that there is minimal trimming.

FYI IIRC my measured height at 38psi front-to-back was 33.2". It's not the height that rubs the sway bar, it's the width I think. At full lock left, even creeping along, I can hear and feel the lugs on the tire rubbing. At full lock right, creeping along or doing a hard U-turn, I don't feel it but there's apparently a very slight rub on the KDSS arm based on the shininess.
