Thanks Dave...I will try and make it Sat.

afaik???? what is that?

Hey Sam,

Afaik = as far as I know

The homestead is a great place to walk the trails and watch some great wheeling. It is a hard core collection of trails that can take a long time to get a bunch of trucks through. There is typically a lot of standing around and spotting/watching people make multiple attempts at obstacles. Really fun stuff. I think that it will be VERY busy at the Homestead this weekend given that it's technically been closed and many people are hankerin' to get back in there. Word is the rains have made the property and trails even more interesting. I can only imagine. BYOB - bring your own bondo!

So much for traction!

If you're locked and have good bumpers & sliders you should be in good shape to wheel there. If not, and you're having issues as you mentioned, it could be a rough day on the trail. JMO.

Dave and Randy...Thanks for the info.

I will come up Sat., probably about 9:00 or 10:00 & stay a few hours. I'll keep my eye out for Toyotas. I should be in my 40. I have no lockers or sliders, just 33's with lift, otherwise stock. Have only wheeled at my place, so still getting used to how it does.

Sounds like the Homestead is really hardcore...

Honestly, I dont have a heck of a lot of experience with wheeling, just getting up and down my "hill", which has it's challenges. I am used to my 4runner that has never let me down, it goes a lot different than the 40 though.

Looking forward to meeting you all...

There are plenty of alternatives to running the hard core stuff up there. The Class VI roads are abundant. A Class VI road in NH is a town road that isn't maintained which is different than the classifications that wheelers use to rate a trail's difficulty. I was the lone 40 and lone Toyota on the class VI runs both days last year. I hope some of you other less than hard core folks can make it. I wish I had gotten into the thread earlier so we could have set up a TOY only run. If there's some interest, we can get going later in the morning. Not sure I'm quite up for leading a group, but am familiar with the area enough that we can all flounder about together if that's what folks want to do. There's a lot of opportnity for some fun wheeling with little or no carnage. LC

Want to be a trail leader for the Fall Gathering?

Howdy!

I'm hoping by the Fall Gathering I might have my act together enough (or at least one of the 5 LC's) to do some more serious stuff. If that holds up, I'd be a FOLLOWER ;)

We got about 5 miles from the Homestead this morning and turned around. I made the mistake of taking the '78 40 with the cut out real sill that I'm replacing and no tailgate. By the time we got to Hillsboro, we were breathing hard from the fumes backdrafting into the passenger compartment. Pressed on regardless, but were still thinking barely clearly enough to turn back after another10 miles We made it back home breathing regularly again after removing the soft top, doors and folding down the windshield. Driving 50-60 on the highway with the WS down on a 40 is like having a 2 ton motorcycle and the bugs on the forehead really hurt!

BTW, I don't have exhaust leaks, it was all back draft. I"ll be finishing sealing all of that up sill area before a trip that long again!

That being said, sure you want me as a leader?

In any case, I'm planning to get the FJ62 up to the Homestead mid-late morning. There has to be a couple Jeeps up there that will need a heavier tug or push

Well me and the wife got there about 9:30....

We walked around the corner to check out the entry area leading to the "Backyard"...Holy Crap, that was a reality check. I cant believe the rocks and such, and seeing how built some of the trucks were. Guess you need some serious machines to do those trails.

Anyways, we decided to go with the class 6 dudes. Jumped in with a group that planned to be back about noon. Did a nice leisurely tour about. The wife got bored and insisted on driving. The deal was, we would go to the wheeling thing and then I was to accompany her on a bike ride later, then she wants to drive, (was that fair?).

Just before we took off for the 6 run, we saw some 40's roll in. Wow, you all machines are "Built". I met Randy for 2 seconds....(Hope you all had some fun out there). Seeing those machines was a reality check. Mine with 33's and lift looks like a small toy next to those. I'm amazed, well I am new to this, so did not take much to amaze me I guess...

Once back, we wanted to check out the backyard. I pulled up around the corner and stayed right, up the hill, got to the steep down leading into the gulley. Wife was not too keen on letting me go further...I did not press the issue, probably would have put myself in a position to be in the way for the serious guys out there.

Fun stuff...

There are some pics posted up of Randy and the boys over on NEOW.

There will be a bunch more coming up, Kevin, "the guy walking with the camra" took about 400 pics and hes planning to host them on his site. :D

There needs to be a big THANK YOU to everybody who helped make this possible. The wheeling is awsome.

I am the "Pat" Cpom is talking about on Neow, he was my co-pilot that day.

Looks AWESOME!

The Homestead ROCKS! Between the flood waters that ripped through there and the buggies that play there, the rocks seem bigger than the last year's spring fling.

What a fun day with some great people. Met Wildman, Cpom, and Kevin and had a good time wheeling/hanging with them. Met Spud on the way in...nice cruiser!

Our group had four NCC 40's, Kina's Frankenbeef, Wildman's big mini and three nicely built Jeeps from VT. Lot's of carnage and McGyver action including welding with batteries on a busted track bar and busted tie rod ends, and one blown birfield. Rock rash and beauty marks-a-plenty. Between the rain and slick mud, swampers ended up looking and driving like big glazed chocolate donuts. Great spotting, teamwork, and a relaxed atmosphere throughout the day.

Wheeling the Homestead is a contact sport.

Thanks to all for a great day.

Randy

Ahh man sorry I missed it. Sounded fun as always. I was planning on going but my truck wasn't quite ready. Still needed to work out some kinks. Hopefully it will be ready for Kina's.

Wondered where you were. What's up with your truck?
It's ok. I was installing a crawler box and wasn't quite done. Now I got a 3 spd t/case. For 120:1 ratio! It's awesome!
