First off, I know for a fact I need to rebuild my knuckles (have grease in my diff), but had a question regarding wheel or knuckle bearings.

Would either bearing ever make a clink, clink, clink noise when the wheels are turning? I don't think the sound I am hearing is coming from my driveshaft. It gets faster as speed increases.

Sounds like metal hitting metal. I was just curious to see responses before my kits get here.

Thanks.

in 4wd or with the hubs locked, or with the hubs unlocked and in 2wd??

dry birfs....

Well, since the front axle isn't turning in 2wd, its probalby not the birfs. Wheel bearings can make all kinds of strange noises. Pull the hubs apart and look at the wheel bearings. If they're trashed, it usually pretty obvious - pitting in the races or rollers. They're not too tough replace.

Check the front of the t/c. and the fluid in there. mine is leaking and makes noises llike that, but it does it all the time. don't think it relates to actually turning, but still makes the same noise

Well, I am glad to hear it is probably not the birfs.

Billybob... my t-case is leaking, too. I just refilled it about two weeks ago, but it leaks quite a bit (like a 1.5" x 1.5" puddle at each rest). The noise was there, but very slight when I bought the truck back in May, but seems more frequent and louder now.

you need new seals on your output shafts -- not difficult to do but you will need an impact gun and a good torque wrench at minimum. FSM has great walkthrough of the proceedure.
