So I'm just rebuilding the front end of the BJ and one seal has got me a bit stumped. I've seen it before, and possibly when rebuilding my 80 series, but for the life of me cannot find it from what I've stripped down and doesn't show in any diagrams. Any ideas?

That is a rear axle oil seal.
Interesting, thanks for that. I've just rebuilt the rear end and didn't see those. However my rear are drum brakes and if I remember correctly it probably was the rear end of the 80 it came from.

So I would guess that the front and rear of an 80 series cruiser use the same wheel bearing kits.

This is the only axle seal in the rear of a BJ73 with drum brakes....

I would add that those seals don't work very well especially if parked on an uneven sideways angle.

I believe some people end up running the bearings on diff oil instead , sealing the oil at the hub.
But better than nothing if running on grease...
