This is kind of a silly question, and I haven't done any poking around to find out the issue. But, yesterday was the first time I tried to engage 4wd on my fj60 since I got it back a few months ago. When it was away it received a front ARB locker and it was supposed to be returned to 3.70 gearing(from the 4.56s I had). Yesterday I was heading up to our local ski hill and the roads were really icy, so I decided to lock the hubs and run it in 4wd. First of all it wouldn't go into 4high without coming to a complete stop( I tried to engage it going around 25mph). After I got it into 4high I couldn't keep the thing on the road(only going 20 mph)...it was all over the place. It felt like there were lower gears in the front than in the back? Like I was pushing the front with the back. I haven't driven with a front locker, but suspect that steering would not be that great in this situation (I didn't have the front locked, but could it be stuck in the locked position?) My front left tire got to a 5' section of wet pavement and started screeching. Then the xfer case was bound up and I couldn't get it to 2wd from 4high, 4high to 4low was no problem. After backing up and going forward, in deep snow, for 5 minutes it finally popped back to 2wd (the tires had plenty of opportunity to slip). What do you thing is wrong with it? I will jack up the front to spin the wheels to see what the gear ratio is, could the ARB be screwy? I did turn on the compressor and engaged and disengaged the front and rear lockers. The rear made the telltale air escaping noise(when turning the switch off) but the front didn't.
