I'll chime in with my .02. as the pic in post #2 is my truck. I'm gonna guess the hole in the original post is for aftermarket lights.

Post #16. easiest way to tell is if the light comes on the dash with a little red x between two wheels. I would imagine if someone went so far as to install a locker they would hook up the indicator light too.

I like the mix of factory rear and ARB front locker as they are independent systems. I've had the Arb compressor go out. While it hasn't happened to me yet, I do know of people who have had factory locker problems too. I really like being able to just hit the front locker.

KGROVE: if all of this has you scratching your head, the real answer as to what should be there is a blank without a hole in it. What you "want" there is an uphill button.

That would only be the case if the instrument cluster for the 2002 shares the same part# as for the 98/99. If the 2002 is different, it would likely be redesigned without the rear diff lock indicator you speak of. So even if my 2002 had a rear locker installed, there might not even be an indicator light to hook up.

In any case, I just tried driving around a gravel lot with the rear locker switch engaged, but there was no tire dragging in slow sharp turning. It did occur when I locked only the center diff as a test, as expected. I also tried to listen for any noise when engaging the switch, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. This makes me think my 2002 does not have a rear locker installed despite the switch being there, but I can't understand why the previous owner would bother to do that. As a last resort, what if I climbed underneath for a look? Is there something that should or should not be there to indicate whether the rear locker is there?

Take a couple pictures of the rear diff from the driveshaft side (and passenger side) and we can probably tell you if it has an e-locker or ARB locker.

didn't we all tell you that already....? :)
what, are you at Haavad or somethin'...? :D

If by "we" you mean "you", then yes you already told me! I skimmed the thread and forgot about your post from a few days ago. My bad!

And the closest I can get to being called a Haavad man is by camping out on Harvard Yard with all those other occupy bums. I think it's time for them to pack it in and get back to reality

The only part that has me scratching my head (as most of the thread was answering somebody else's similar question) is your last part. At the risk of confessing that I'm a noobie, what pray tell is an "uphill button" and why should I want it? With an uphill button, can I just push the button when going uphill and then recline the seat to take a nap while the button finishes the job for me?
