What's the mpg in your lifted/geared 100 Series?

Right you would have to record the number of miles driven by a method other than the odometer.
No, you just do the adjustment when you fill up. I use my trip A for fuel fill ups and trip B for oil change/tire rotation. When I calculate it out, I find the trip computer is about 1mpg low. I average about 14.2 with mixed driving.

Yes, but with the larger tires the odometer is incorrect too.

Stock is a 31 inch tire, upgraded to a 33 inch approx (295/75-16 is 33.42 inches). So that is a 7.8% difference. If you traveled 300 miles by the odometer, you actually only traveled 278.1 miles since the tires rotated 7.3% less. So you would need to divide that by the number of gallons the truck needs to be full again.

At least this is my understanding.

That works assuming your tire is actually the size its marketed as. I know some tires can have up to an inch variation between brands of the same size.

Definitely the closest you can get to a true mpg with non-stock tires and no speedo correction.

Someone asked about how to correct the speedo. I know a few Mud members have done it using one of these Official home page of the Yellow Box Speedo Recalibrator

I think someone did a write up of the install thats probably easily searchable.

That would also work... the point I was trying to emphasize was getting away from the trip computer as an accurate indicator of MPG

Oh yeah, the computer is a 'ballpark' meter only.

These things are thirsty, but worth it.

Agreed! Havent had a chance to post my rig up yet (just got her) but I am in love.

If you're going to drive a Land Cruiser and add modifications, forget the gas mileage. It's best not to know and enjoy the ride.

Indeed checking amount of fuel vs. miles on the odometer is the most accurate measurement you can take.
BUT
You need to factor the odometer difference in.
Forget about stock tire sizes... Some tires say it is a 31 and when you actually measure it is a 29"... Same with bigger tires, it depends on the manufacturer.
Check with a GPS and compare. It varies depending on gearing and tire size.
Mine is (minus 6%).
I've got 33s + heavy OME lift and stock gearing on my '03. Using this method the odometer gives me about 300 miles mixed city/hwy or 330 hwy. with about 22 gallons of fuel.
With a -6% difference it means a tank is yielding between 318 to 350 "real" miles.
so this means 13-16 MPG...
My "computer" gives a 11.5 to 13.5 MPG reading so it is obviously inaccurate.
Keep in mind that if you want exact numbers you need to take the exact fuel reading into account. Only a half a gallon difference will give you a +- 1 MPG difference. So the tank must be filled to the filler neck and I suggest you do several readings because the terrain, how loaded up you are, the wind, all make a difference... Land Cruisers are known for their reliability and toughness, but fuel "economy" is not one of their strong points.

Damn you guys are doing too much math! The bottom line is that these things don't start out with good MPG's so adding a bunch of stuff on top of it sure isn't going to help.

11-17 mpg depending on hill/mountain climbs. The dependability of the TLC off sets operating cost for me. Sadly I know I will never be able to afford the repair/maintenance cost of UAW domestic vehicle regardless of how mpg they achieve.
Toyota for the win!!!

Never top off your tank on an 03+. That's how you kill the charcoal canister, fuel goes back into it and it's shot. That's how I killed mine, $400 later I know better. When the pump clicks off, don't put anymore in.

Wow @maxse01 a BIG thanks for the heads up. I've had my truck for 15.000 miles now. Have been topping off the fuel tank as it will hold between two and four gallons after the pump clicks off... I wondered why? now I know. Will stop topping off.
