What would you do? Which vehicle to take

Here is the trip- 4.5 days total off time with arrival in LV Friday for Sat wedding. Choice of 95FZJ80 or B5 S4? Veterans Highway is in the desert and there might be some "shortcuts" worth getting dirty on.
If you have any insights or advice thats why I am posting up. The S4 could make some good time but there is some great open land on the way.

I've been to Death Valley a few times, but never any of the trails.

...and somewhat implied when exploring a park with "Death" in the name, traveling with another vehicle is advised. Bring more water and food than you think you need. Tell people when to expect you, and where you're going.

I'm biased,i would take the 80 series on any trip unless it's an M3,M5 or a 335D for some serious torque.

Thats actually a little hurtful

AWD is a requirement for us- we like the snow. So I am leaning toward the S4 for this outing- although the snow is not present at this time the twin spools are always nice.

Ok. Taking the wagon and adding a couple of days. Now how about a good place to camp around Tahoe? or???
