Going to start another FJ40 project possibly and want to buy steel, does anyone know the type of steel used on the body of the FJ40, thickness will help also.

14, 16 and 18 gauge depending on the year. Older = thicker.

1975 and older, I was also asking about what type, i.e. how much carbon content, or the steel grade (1040, 1018, etc.).
its reclaimed steel and some places you cant drill a hole its so hard ,then move 3 inches and it drills fine.some time in the late 70s its all crap and the trucks rot out fast around here.buy the best steel you can afford and go from there it will look the same and very few people will ask you what the carbon content is.i used and aluminized steel for years it formed and welded like steel but didnt rust .good luck

Ya, I am a major in Materials Science, but don't have the equipment, resources, or time to look at the steel type. Also, if I do it will cost a lot of money to have a colleague 'translate' the steel type.
Most of them have the "Rusty" kind.
