All the "how to" videos you'd ever want to see about plasti dip on your vehicle:

Mine was anthracite, which is a slightly shiny gray. Sold at Lowe's. I only needed three cans, and that was with four coats on 5 wheels. Our 16 inch wheels are both fairly small, and don't have a lot of "details" so it doesn't require a can per wheel like people who are working on their 22 inch rims.

Just clean the wheels really really well, then wipe them down with alcohol to get residual oil, etc. off of them.

One light coat, then three more heavier (until appears wet) coats, waiting 10 to 15 minutes between coats. I did five wheels for less than $25.

You found Anthracite at Lowes? Ive never seen it sold anywhere local. Its not on any of the big box hardware store websites either.

Any thoughts for covering your spare tire now that's it's been plastidipped? I do 5 tire rotation and whenever that spare goes on it is a MESS. It would be nice to put a cover over the spare when it is under the truck, has anyone here done that? If so, what did you use for the cover? Nobody is going to see it, but you also want to be sure it doesn't come off.

Some stupid questions for you:

Were you able to do this without taking the wheels off?

Did you do the lug nuts and the hub separately, or just left them on and did it all in one shot?

Any other advice to share about the process?

Thanks!
Yes, wheels on, tires on, masked using blue painters tape and news paper
Lug nuts on, taped, next time paint them also, retouch as needed

One trick if you paint the center covers. I pulled them off then tapped them in just enough to make them stay and painted them as I did the wheels. They covered the hub/center axle and I didn't have to deal with them separately. Once they dried I just tapped them in.

Just the basics:
Don't do it near your wife's car
Don't paint in a breeze
Play the stereo while you paint
Paint around the car in the same order so the 1st ones ready for recoat when you come off the 4th one etc.
This is rubber paint so thicker comes off easier in one peel (did you ever peel an apple in one big long piece, like that) no not like that but you get the point.

I cut a coragated plastic sign from office big box store to go above the spare and keep the crap off. I made a slot for the lift cable. I thought it keep it from rock chipping and kept the wheel cleaner. It got pretty dirty and the wheel didn't. I was only trying to keep the wheel nicer.

Anyone have any pic of the Champagne pearl with anthracite colored wheels? Would the Plastidip Silver w/ Gossifier match the paint color well? Looking Plastidip colors online, it appears that "Aluminum" would be an acceptable color, but I'm not sure if the Glossifier is required.
