What to do with a high mileage 2UZ

Good evening Mud, I'm looking into purchasing a 100 series and an option came up for a reasonably priced 100 for the mileage. Usually I'd stick with something under 100K with the intent on owning it for 10+ years.

What do you do with the 2UZ when it gets old 250-300k, rebuild it, swap in a newer more powerful 2uz.....say from a 2005-2007 Sequoia/Tundra? I wasnt able to find differences in the motor itself other than increases in HP and while I understand that comes with vehicle specific ECU and doodads that control everything I was just curious how swapable this motor was...longblock if nothing else.

I'd baseline it and drive it. It will probably go a lot longer than we will.

Honestly I don't know I have a 2uz in a sequoia in the mid hundreds that purs like a kitten. On my 3rd 5vzfe 250k then 90k ..... Not a 300k motor. I was thinking if it blew or was really not well maintained.
 
Baseline it and drive it. The materials, QC, QA and manufacturing processes for the 2uz seem to have all aligned and make for an extremely happy motor even at high mileage.
 
If it runs, drive it. When it costs $5000 to fix it, then scrap it and go but another one. Repeat. I can't say that I've seen more 100s than anyone else here, but I've never seen one go to the junkyard unless it was wrecked. A lot of the time when they get old and over 300k-400k miles and can't bring much money in US, I think people are exporting them.
 
Look for the high mileage thread. There were some in the 400-500k range with regular maintenance. 5vz is a good motor, but I think 2uz is more robust.

I remember you from the yotatech days. Good move on trading up to an LC.
 
Catch up on any deferred maintenance, or better still baseline everything inc fluids, filters, grease etc. Buy a spare coil pack - they will fail over 100K and are a snap to replace with minimal effort if you have a spare and a 10mm socket :-)
Beyond that, just drive it. My '99 has well over 250k miles and has been rock steady reliable. Stuff has been replaced, of course, but all of this has been done as soon a a problem showed up and before anything actually failed. Only stranding in its life was when it blew one of the $5 plastic heater hose tees.
