I should add that I sprayed the underside of the car clean before my weekend adventure (250 mi round trip) so there was no visible oil when I started.

So,

Any further thoughts? Would YOU drive this thing 2500 miles through the middle of nowhere?

yep, I would.

it's a 3b, they're dirty and uncivilized, but tend to keep running.

I've had a few, and all were at least that greasy below the blowby tube.

looks pretty normal to me, and if it's running well otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't mind redirecting that tube to the air intake myself tho, my 42 has lots of ...." vents" and it gets a tad smelly inside from blowby.

Fair enough. Mine runs strong (as in, she starts and doesn't smoke on hills and doesn't go anywhere in a hurry but always gets me there), but I've decided to bring it by MarkW's shop anyway to look for anything that might fail. When I bought it 2 years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about cruisers or the community and made the unfortunate mistake of getting it from "Dave" up in Bear Valley. :bang:

That said, I'm sure there's something lurking underneath just waiting to break...

Sure i would drive it, how much oil you loss per 1,000miles?
Anyhow my front DS is always like that also.

I wouldn't worry about the oily blow-by tube but I would grease up the slip-yoke on your front DS. The grease will be all washed out of it by now. I'd also pull off that ridiculous orange feelgood canister and replace it with an oil filter before the trip.

I assume this is what you mean by "feel good canister": https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tec...3b-oil-oil-filter-fuel-filter-air-filter.html

I'll likely change the oil before hitting the road anyway. As far as oil consumption, I haven't DRIVEN 1,000 miles since I fixed the side cover gasket 2 months ago so I couldn't say (I bike to work year round so this is an adventure vehicle only). I don't suspect it's much though.

I had a muffler shop work on my exhaust today and they helped some things but totally messed up other things (added a random pipe mount that makes the whole rig shake like **** at idle- or at least that's what I hope is causing it!). So while I was looking and listening to the engine, I finally took a video that somewhat captures the blowby exhaust. If you go to full screen you can see it. Posted for posterity I suppose. And also because I'm getting nervous about my drive. :frown:

Looks like a 3B to me. :D

Doesn't look awesome (it'd certainly be OK if it'd smoke less) but that looks alright to me. I have one that would smoke like that had I not routed that vent into the intake to cut down on the stink.
