Hey all.

So it is time for an oil change, and I just want to find out what the best stuff to use is, and where to get it.

Its my first oil change on my 81 BJ42, and I want to do it properly.

So what is the best Oil, Oil Filter, Fuel Filter, and Air Filter to use?

Also, I know my primer leaks, so are there any tricks to making it function?

Thanks in advance!

Filter is a Napa/Wix 1515 (or a PH8 - but PLEASE don't use a Fram filter).

Oil - pretty much any 15W40 diesel grade as long as you stick to 5,000 km changes.

Fuel Napa/Wix 3386

Air Napa/Wix 2159

BTW, if you take some time to look, all of these part numbers and more are listed in stickies at the top of the forum.

Primer can be replaced with a Bosch 2 447 010 038 'cause I just did that on my BJ60. This one doesn't require you to loosen it to pump.

X2 on NOT using Fram filters! They used to be good but have sadly fallen way down....
Ive been using the Purolator Pure One PL30001 for the last few years and find it an excellent unit. The Purolator Pure One PL10241 is the replacement for the stock Toyota filter, and the PL30001 is an oversized filter with the same fit.

What's the hand primer for exactly and where is it located?

I use the Wix stuff John referenced. As for oil, a good diesel rated 15-40. Chevron Delo 400 or Shell Rotella are pretty highly regarded.
If your primer leaks you can replace it pretty easy. I bought a bosch primer from this place in Hong Kong - $15US and free shipping. Pretty hard to beat, and it's a much better unit than stock.

BOSCH Hand Primer Pump Diesel Fuel Feed Pump 244701038 : eBay Motors (item 390122982017 end time Jan-23-10 17:49:17 PST)

What is this for exactly?
