Just received my OME suspension for the rear but something doesn't seem right. The shackles are shaped like an anti-inversion, the directions talk about installing an anti-inversion pin and ARB's web site says you only need the anti-inversion kit if you don't buy the greasable shackles, which these are. Problem is, there are no anti-inversion pins in the box and their are no threads for them in the shackle plates. Anyone seen this before?

Thanks for any help

84'BJ60 w. flat springs

I would not worry about it too much, the proper size spring will not invert.

Last time I checked, the greasable shackle pins have nothing to do with inverting shackles.

I would assemble it and go on my merry way. Anti inversion shackles are mostly a bandaid for improper spring/shackle choices..

unshackled

Lowtideride : the OME springs are longer than stock and will flip under extreme flex (at least that is what I'm told).

Mace : these pins are not the ones conecting the front of the spring to the frame. They go into the triangular-shaped shackle at the rear and bump against the frame before the spring flips inside (and doesn't want to come out).

They sent me the nuts for both ends, but the pins are not there. Just seemed kind of wierd for the "cadillac of suspension".

Souds like you are missing some drilled bolts..

You can either
a) go down to the hardware store and spend 2.35 on a set of grade 5 bolts

or

2: call the people that sold you the kit and ask if they are supposed to come with the kit..

Duck,
I doubt it, to small of springs invert most of the time. I really dont think the OME ones will. Second, even though I run them also, Anti-inversion shackles limit flex. Because of the cross pin in the middle.

I think my huge gigantic brain would say longer shackles. But who knows...

seen skyjackers invert numerous times, but i've also seen stock springs in stock configuration invert twice.

If you hit any spring hard enough it can invert..

The arc that the shackle swings in needs to be considered.. The more lift a spring sees the more potential it has for inverting.

The BEST idea is to run a longer shackle and relocate the shackle hanger. So the shackle can use the proper arc.

Longer shackles make it harder for a spring to invert. But you tend to get a rougher ride because the shackle is more vertical..

It is a selection of give and take...

I do wish that spring makers would just make a longer spring to deal with the inversion issues...

Good service

Called ARB's tech dept. in Washington and they are sending me the missing anti-inversion pins. Yeah, they basically bolt through with the exception of being thicker on the inside of the plates to butt up against them.

Not sure what to do with the isolation system (bunch of rubber/steel junk around the spring pack under the u-bolts). Everyone seems to have a different opinion. Has anyone noticed much difference in hwy/vibration noise when they are removed?

Thanks for all the replies.

did you have the rubber spacer uncer the front as well or just the back?

you're right,'import sylvia", i followed an FJ60 with the original emu springs up cadillac hill at rubicon. without shackle reversal and without anti inversion shackles. he inverted the shackle and didn't realize. By the time we got to the top he had a 90 degree bend about 6" behind the front eye and was the proud owner of a $250.00 piece of scrap metal
