I have seen a few threads on this but nothing for this specific situation so I'm hoping to start one to get some clarity.

I have a '22 GX and have been having trouble getting Techstream connected on it. I have a "MINI VCI J2534" cable (the clear plastic one) that I had been using on my 2006 Land Cruiser perfectly. However, on the latest version of Techstream, with the same cable, I'm completely unable to connect to my 2022 GX460. I'm trying to reprogram some keys. Did they change something in the latest years of the GX460, or am I just having bad luck?

If anyone has had luck connecting Techstream to their 22/23 GX460, and is willing to share which cables they have used, please do share :)

My problem is I cannot get tech stream even working on my notebook. I have the same cable. Will be following the thread.

I've had to buy the cable twice because apparently cable had changed and what would work on my previous '98 100 series LC wouldn't work on my current GX.
How long ago did you both purchase your cables? Are you both using Windows or IOS?
This is what I purchased back in 2019 and it works on my Windows 10 laptop: Amazon.com - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BCNPDDG?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1
Bought this at the end of December 2024:
Mini VCI J2534 Cable V18.00.008... Amazon.com - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJ9GXKZF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have a Windows 10 machine running a virtual machine with a 32-bit Windows 7. Neither OS works with the 2 included tech stream programs. It's frustrating.

OBD changed in 2020 … I can’t remember if one or 2 pins were dropped.

IIRC you need to use “Toyota Global TechStream Plus (Toyota GTS+)” and TBH… I don’t recall many if any setting this up on a ‘20+ nor the appropriate cable. The cables used ‘19 and before are not going to work

The cable is from 2021 or so. I’ve tried both windows and Mac, first tried a VM on my Mac and then bought a cheap used thinkpad in case it was the hardware.

It sounds like if the connector was changed in 2020 that might be the answer. I’ll look for a connector that seems to work with 2020+ and hopefully will have better luck. I’m pretty sure I’m on the right version of Techstream but I’ll double check that as well. I’ll report back whatever I find in a few weeks.

Is this cable working for you on a post-2020 GX? If so I’ll give it a shot.

I have a 2013 and have not tried it on any other Toyota's/Lesus', neither newer or older since I've had it.
I just know it works on mine.
If you want to drive down the coast, you can try it! :D

I have VCI J2534 and it works fine on my 2023 GX.
It's not fast but it's working.
Also tested on 2019 and 2021 Toyotas.
I'm running it on win7 within a virtual machine.

I bet the issue is in the software. Try different drivers.

@L3P Curious what version of TS you have to use on your ‘23? Have you leveraged for any customization options. I haven’t recalled any ‘22 or ‘23 doing any customizations

A ZPC has to be done via this setup now and no paper clip options ‘20+

I apologize, just double checked, I'm actually running win xp(yeah, I know) in a UTM virtual machine on Mac. TS version is 18.00.008.

I didn't customize anything. My primary goal was to read and reset the trouble codes I set during my security system installation.

I have both a generic mini-VCI cable and an authentic Tactrix cable. Using TS 18 on my '23, the only difference I've observed is that the Tactrix cable is much faster at communicating with the car.

J2534. Have yet to even use it. My plan when I bought the cable was to load a VM onto my Win 11 Surface Pro but decided to simply buy an eBay Windows 7 laptop for like $85 to keep as a dedicated tool to use with the truck. I'll see how that all works hopefully in the next week or so.

Keep us posted. 👍

I keep an old HP laptop around with a TS 12.x installed I use for vehicle custom programming, TPMS reprogramming, and at time troubleshooting. That being said I can basically get all the codes via OBD Link/Fusion.

Acrad,

My ebay miniVCI cable came with a disk with TS 18.x and now I'm running into some .net framework issues that appear to be hindering the installation of TS. I have an older GX (2004), so I'm not particularly worried about having the most up to date TS version. Do you have any suggestions on how to get TS 12.x onto my T420? It's running Windows 7 (got this version bc most of the posts I saw about TS installs using VM ware had users emulating a Win7 OS). Do I need to reimage with a WinXP OS? I don't need this laptop to do anything other than run TS, so I don't care at all about security patches or anything else whatsoever. Once the install is done, I won't even put it on my network.

Chris
