Hey MUD I need help deciding if I should keep the trailer I built (almost finished with) or cut it up to fit our new needs. If I can sell the current trailer, build a new one and still pocket $1500 then it would be worth starting over. If I'm only going to do all that and only pocket $500 then I should probably just butcher the current one.

So the trailer as it sits now was build for deep mountain missions where we would load it down with medical stuff, food and gear. But we have since then sold our '05 T4R w/V8 and are now sporting a '82 BJ60 w/3B diesel which is a bit slower. ;) The trailer in it's current state will weigh around 1200#'s + and I need that down to 500#'s +.

If I butcher it I'd be dumping the side boxes, the entire main box and tongue decking. More or less I'd be making a flat bed trailer w/fenders and removable wood sides. I'd also shorten the tongue.

Let me know what other details will help with the decision. Thank you!!!

Man, that's a nice looking trailer. It would be a shame to cut it up. I'm not sure how much you are going to be able to sell an unfinished trailer for, but it looks like it's pretty close. Hopefully you can find someone to buy it for the right price. I think if you found the right buyer you could... if they really understood what is into it.

Yeah I could finish it first and it's almost done really. I really don't want to butcher it as I've put tons of love into the build! I just didn't want to finish it and only get 2k for it. :( I seem to have to sell things cheap a lot of the time as with everybody I'm sure. ;) Thanks!

Daniel,
You're in a better position to judge it than I am, but it looks like a lot of the weight is in the frame. That's what you'll have left anyway, plus a bit more if cut down to a flatbed. I'm not sure that saves you enough weight. Thus, I'd think you're better off looking for a trailer designed to be lightweight -- and strong, too -- and sell this to someone who can put it to better use.

All great points! I'll get started finishing it and list it. Thanks all!
