Hello Everyone,

Just wondering what lift I should get for my 81? Currently I have a 2" lift that came with my truck from Japan. Like most JDM lifts, it's soft. The lift is to soft for me, and I get to much body roll. Right now I am using the stock struts with variable ride. Even on "sport "its soft.

Currently I have:

Up front:
ARB bumper
Warn M8000 with roller fairlead
Hella lights

Back:
big roof rack
rear ladder
tire carrier and full size spare (258/75/16 BFG AT)
plus I carry about 100-150lbs of gear at all times.

Getting:
Sliders (as soon as I make em)
Rear drawer system (as soon as I make it)

Anyways, I am wanting a OME lift.
I am thinking the heavy/heavy lift (850/863)

Any comments on this?
Any opinions as to what set up I should get?

Thanks,
Nick

i got the heavy lift for my 91 4runner and its AWESOME....

Below is a pic of my truck currently.
It was take last weekend.
The BJ74 belongs to Gold Boy.

My Hella lights still need to go back on, but take a look how low its sitting. I usually try and compare were there running board are (if you make an invisable line over to the tire) to get and idea of lift. I seem to be a couple inches down right now, compared to others.

I think its a combination of it only being a 2" lift, as well as carrying lots of weight on a stock lift. I think if I go to a 850/863 OME I will go up about 1.5inches as well as fixing my soft bouncy ride.

I know I want a OME.
I guess I am just wondering what combination people think I should get and why.

Thanks
Nick

Here is the pic. I guess its kinda skewd because I am parked on an angle.
I also have about 350-450lbs in the back of the truck. So that will way it down a bit.

it looks like the horrible saggy ass that so many 4 runners are accustomed too....ome lift will totally help that out.....

i ended up adding spacers to my lift to lift the ass higher up.

Yeah the back is sagged a bit in the first pic. I forgot, but in that photo I have about 350-450lbs of wieght in the back, plus I am parked with some flex in the back. The second picture better shows the back with about 100-150-lbs of wieght.

Nick

Thanks Wayne.
We still have to go wheeling one weeked.
Maybe even this weekend? Saturday maybe?
Not sure how far we will make it with lots of snow still out there.
We could wait until late April maybe.
Might be a better mix of trail/mud/snow/run off. Or we could just go twice. :)

Also, as someone who has had a OME lift in a 81, how was it?
What lift did you get? Was it to soft or firm, or just right?
I think the truck yours was on was pretty stock wieght wise.
Knowing what you know, and having driven a OME lifted 81, what would you suggest for me?

Cheers,
Nick

I am sure this will raise some eyebrows but i was not impressed with the ride, i found it too firm. i ordered the light duty front and rear because i like a soft ride and had no intention of putting much weight in the unit.
now that Gowan has the unit and is doing it up i am sure it is fine. maybe he will comment on this.
i would also talk to Slee Offroad and see what he thinks of Dobsin springs...
cheers

oh and try an OME stabilizer bar too... how do you like the BFG's?

downey probably makes great springs too

I thought everything came as a kit with the stabalizer bar included:
2 x OME 850 Front Coil Springs
2 x OME 863 Rear Coil Springs
2 x N73 Nitrocharger Shocks
2 x N74E Nitrocharger Shocks
1 x SD24 Steering Damper
1 x CA77B Caster Kit
1 x Caster Bushing Press Piece

I like my BFG's, but I do wish there were more aggressive, especially in the snow. With chains I will be fine (which reminds me, I still need to buy some:) for 285's).

Wayne, maybe you want my soft lift then, once I swap it out. Cheap cheap. :)

So would you guys be interested in meeting up this weekend in the Crowsnest pass or something (half way for both of us). All would be invited. Or do you think there is to much snow to get anywhere?

Cheers,
Nick

how cheap would you sell that lift for Nick?

Thanks for the compliment Wayne..

Hi Nick

Now I know OME make great products as everyone says so...

I also like MONROE shocks ( can I say MONROE here LOL ) any way I going to use these shocks http://www.monroe.com/products/mp_detail.asp?cat=Sensa-Trac&detail=Load Adjusting Shock Absorbers

"A new pair of Monroe Sensa-Trac load adjusting shock absorbers can assist in maintaining ride height when up to 1,200 lbs*. of additional weight is loaded. These units are ideal for light trucks that carry varying loads or tow trailers."

They cost about $150 a pair..

I am not saying they are better than OME, just an option.

Would you want just the springs or the shocks too?
Shocks are OEM, with the adjustable ride.
Springs look like new. No idea how much use. No offroading other than me.

What would a fair price be?
I am not out to be greedy.

I also have some 245/75/16 BFG AT's for sale.
Came off my disco (I bought them new 7 months ago). Only 5000km's on them. Virtually no wear, but there is some light signs off offroading. Basically like new. $500 firm for those. If anyone is interested.

Cheers,
Nick

Would people be interested in going out this weekend?

Hill?
SteveO?
Wayne?
Others?
I am up for inviting everyone.
Maybe someone could bring a FJC for an extended test drive. :) :D

Or do you guys think there is to much snow in the Crowsnest to get anywhere? If people want to pass, thats okay, we can jusyt plan for another weekend.
Just thought I would suggest it. Kinda last minte though.

Cheers,
Nick

No worries.
I should of posted something earlier.
Not very much notice.

Next weekend does't work for me. I am helping my girlfriend move into her new house. Maybe sometime later in April maybe?

Cheers,
Nick

come join us for the May long weekend...
we got a good group heading out for the family 3 days...
cheers

Speaking to lifts, check out Slee's site:

http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/80_suspension.htm

I currently have the OME 2.5" Medium lift. I love it -- great improvement over the "cadillac" stock (and worn out) suspension.

My problem is that I just added front and rear bumpers (with tire carrier), and I'll probably be adding dual batteries, a winch, and aux fuel tank within this year. I'll likely end up upgrading to the 2.5" Heavy lift sometime in the near future.

If you just have sliders & bumpers (without winch, tank, or 500lbs of ammo like CDan), the Medium would probably work well for you.

I highly recommend picking up the phone and talking to Christo or Ben at Slee. They are very helpful.
