I found this wrench at my parent's house, apparently its from before 1950, and I was wondering if it was specifically a pipe/plumbing wrench design, or if its just a different kind of torque crescent?

I'll be using it on my truck anyway, just curious :)

I'd see a few of those wrenches come up at auctions. You also see them on ebay.

I'd keep it, clean off the rust with some WD40 and steel wool and then rub it down with Caranuba wax. It will look cool hanging on your wall. You also see other interesting variants like the double ended adjustable with a large and small sizes on opposite side of the same tool and another variant called the "Handy boy" which is basically a set of slip joint pliers with a crescent wrench on one side of the handle and a flat screwdriver on the other - kind of a waaaaay old school multitool.

Bonney made many of those old S wrenches as did many others.

Nice find.

Awesome info, thank you!

Though I fully intend to use it as a work wrench though :]

Left handed adjustable monkey wrench.

Looks a lot like this one, is it the same maker?

Would you have any more info on those double ended adjustable wrenches? Were they a promotional tool by craftsman? My dad used to have a whole set of them, but they were stolen almost 20 years ago. I've been trying to find replacements, but haven't had much luck. I have that exact Handy boy tool, not only is it a worthless pliers, but a worthless screwdriver too. The wrench is ok. Isn't Diamalloy the predecessor to Crescent?

Hah, it actually IS the same company as those, B & C.

Except mine's a 12 incher ;)

Ducttapeguy,

No I don't have any more info on them other than I have seen them from time to time at auctions and on Ebay.

I don't recall seeing any Craftsman ones though but they are probably out there.

I also don't think it was a promo, just something that tool companies used to offer and is no longer available...

I guess if you were working with two fitting sizes like on a plumbing job, you could have each side adjusted for one of the fittings and then just flip the wrench around? Would be cool if you have one large and one small fitting.
