Big Dogs and Little Dogs

Hi, Rhodesian Ridgebacks Tor, Dia, Willow, Zena.
The JRT's Cricket, Nugget, Jag and Bug. The big dogs are bigger only in size, and we do take them all in the Cruiser at the same time occasionally. Kind of noisy and distracting.

Airedale .....definately a nut. kind of like in the movie UP, we can say squirrel and he will run to the back door going nuts to get out side, then when we let him out, he runs to the fence and jumps up at the trees barking.

Picking up a black GSD on Tuesday. She is 10 months old and I can't wait. Will be my first GSD. My wife grew up with 3 of them and swears they are the best dogs ever. I have never had a "smart" dog before (boxers & Weimaraners). Should be fun!

Here are some pics of the way we found him on the property two Saturdays ago...




He had a problem w/ his johnson not retracting, probably due to the cold / no water / no groceries issue. All fits to OEM spec now.









In the last 10 days or so he's put on 12 pounds and now tips in at about 52 #. Healthy, happy, and inclined to defend his groceries pretty well but I suppose that's to be expected. I'd guess he might put on another 5# or so but other than that he seems to be improving with every day. I'll snap a few pics of his current condition and you'd be shocked that he looked so bad just a couple Saturdays ago.

English Mastiff owner here, too. We adopted Huey when he was about 6 and he's 8 1/2 now - fairly old for a Mastiff. He's a small male.

Our prior four-legged son was an English Mastiff as well. McKinley was much bigger than Huey (and apricot versus fawn in color). Poor old guy had a rough life - ate rocks as a pup and underwent abdominal surgery at 3 mos.; congenital hip problems leading to major surgery at 1; blew out both knees - one was surgically repaired; and then he got a form of fast-moving cancer that caused us to put him down at just over 7.

Mastiffs are great, great dogs!

We just put our bullmastiff down 2 weeks ago. He was only 7 as well.
Lost him to a very aggressive cancer too. Got a call while at SnT that he had a nose bleed and just over a month later, we had to put him down it was so bad.
Couldnt have asked for a better dog! Miss him HORRIBLY!

Bull mastiffs are our breed.
Mellow, loyal, protective, but very gentle with kids and other animals.
Gunner pinned the cable guy in a corner when he came in the house. Wouldnt let the guy move OUT of the corner. He didnt see my wife let the guy in, so he had no idea the dude was supposed to be there. The guy called my wife who was in the back room for help. LOL! Never KNEW he had that in him till that day.

Thought Id jump in with a couple of our boy gunner who is no longer with us.
Were waiting for a couple breeders to have their litters this spring to get another. So empty without him! Can NOT wait to get another dog!

Thanks!. Yeah hes gonna be big. he just turned a year on Dec. 1. hes about 160 or so right now. His dad was pure English and weighed in at 235 at 2.5 years old. DUKE is a silver fawn. Thanks again.

Holy crap!!
Gunner was 135 in his prime at about 2.5-3yrs.
235 is massive for a dog. That'll be awesome!
