i no longer have any dogs.
Of all the dogs i have had my favorite was my Australian Shepherd
the animal shelter said he was 1-2yrs but he was probably 5-7yrs old when i got him.
He was sweet, loyal, obeyed all commands, was a joy on the leash or even on the beach without a leash. Until he lost his hearing he was very good with staying right with you on walks without the leash.
He never barked unless another dog was bothering him. He did not chase other dogs or cats or any animals or even let it be known they existed until they got in his face. Even when he was annoyed past his breaking point he would only bark and walk the other way.
He was big so when he ran up to strangers they would sometimes get scared. Having only a nub for a tail i guess some people couldn't tell that he was excited for someone new to pet him. Even at the dog park he would ignore all other dogs and go from person to person for attention.
My son is almost 4. From the time he could crawl he would be all over Dingo. Dingo would move around the house to avoid him until my son was about a year old. After that point Dingo realized he couldn't out run the todder anymore and was subjected to much abuse like loud noises and sometimes hair pulling. Dingo took it in stride and never once growled at any person the entire time i had him.
I had to put him down about a year and a half ago due to old age and failing health.
He was almost deaf and completely blind. It hurt for him to get up and down but would still follow you from room to room around the house.
Was hard to let my friend go but it was for the best.
He was probably around 10+yrs old when he went.
I missed the puppy years. I don't care if he had eaten all the furniture in the house the mature dog i had as a pet would have been all worth the while. I hear aussies are very energetic when young. They need to be worked/trained/exercises properly.
I was 25 and single/active when i got dingo. Probably wouldn't be a good breed for a family with young children/inactive life style. If you dont have a few hours to dedicate to the dog each day....find another breed.
