What is this wire?

Today, I ran the power wires for my fridge. When I pulled off the kick panel on the driver's side, I was surprised to see this wire tapped into a harness, and going to a connector at the end of a rainbow color ribbon cable. Anyone seen this before, or know what it is? Part of a dealer installed alarm, maybe?

Thanks Tony. One end is the T-shaped tap, and the other goes into that black connector at the end of the rainbow color ribbon wire.

Shoot, I don't know? I already buttoned back up, but if I need to, I can get in there and look again.

So, my truck has remote start, which I have never used before until today. Pretty sure that's what the wire in the pictures is for.

How do I start the engine using my Toyota remote engine starter?
  1. Press the LOCK button on the remote.
  2. Press the LOCK button a second time within 1 second.
  3. Press the LOCK button again, this time holding it for 3 seconds. The engine will start

That's not a Toyota cable. You might have/had remote start, but not OEM.

Yeah, for sure I agree. Probably dealer installed? There's a sticker on the driver window that says Toyota VIP remote start or similar. Live in San Diego, don't really need remote start, so I never looked into it too much. Might come in handy on trips to the mountains.

Maybe the dealer installed a OEM remote start. Do you have the original sticker to compare?

The Toyota VIP is a factory remote start. I have that sans ribbon cable. So I think we've ruled out a remote start.

Are there any non-factory switches installed in the dash somewhere?

Do you have LoJack or some aftermarket security device?

Do a google images search for "KARR car alarm system" - do you have one of those buttons under your steering wheel? I have one on mine, and it was dealer installed at some point by a previous owner.

It looks like this, and while I haven't followed the wiring (yet - this Saturday is my first available day since I bought the car. My two girls are each on two softball teams >< ) I bet it looks as "custom" as your wiring does above. This picture isn't from my specific 200, but it's very similar.

Sorry guys, been a busy week. Had the Cruiser at the dealer this week for the rain sensing wipers, and they said the wire in question is part of the alarm install from the dealer that originally sold the Cruiser. (The service writer also seemed like he didn't really know / care about the wire since they weren't getting paid to look at it) @JS22STL - No aftermarket switches or buttons. @NDizzle - no, I don't have that KARR alarm in the Cruiser, but I did have one just like it in my last Tacoma.
