I came across this photo of a 62 dash, and mine doesn't have this thing I have the arrow pointing to. Anyone know what it is?

I am planning to take out the plastic cover that I have there, and the little plastic cover for the button that isn't there to the right of it. I got this small CB for christmas that I want to put right in that spot. I really like this unit because it is so simple and compact. No silly chrome or a thousand dumb switches. I will use a dremel to carve out the perfect size hole in the plastic covers, and have the whole thing come out looking stock. Here's the CB I'm putting in:

The thing is only $26 on amazon. I am finalizing my antenna setup now, but as it stands I plan to put a 3' firestik in the same spot as the FM antenna is now, with a splitter in line for dual use; it will be my FM radio antenna too.

I'm sure all the CB purists will say I won't get good results, but I have spoken to some knowledgeble people and I think I'll be okay. There is one guy on the forum running around with this setup too.

Let me know what you think, and if someone knows what the heck that thing is in the first photo, let me know!

It is the front controls for the rear a/c a non US option.

I had a feeling that might have been what it was. Well, now I won't feel so bad smashing all the wiring that's back there into a little ball behind the dash to get it out of my way!

I'd still play nice with the wiring: all kindsa bad things happen when you let the magic smoke out. :whoops:

Nice hook-up on the CB, I might pick one up as well....

Example number one thousand of how we get/got shortchanged in the U.S. when it comes to goodies that were offered elsewhere.
