This is picture is from a ‘93 KZJ78

Anyone know what the open electrical connector is for that I circled in red?

It’s a truck I’m looking at buying, so assessing from pictures. I’m not a 70 series guru by any means.

Yes, it has locking hubs...factory push button for it on the dash.

So what’s the deal with the locking hubs on these rigs? Do you need to engage the hubs to engage 4WD? Similar to old square body Chevy’s from the 80’s/90’s that you had to engage manually on the front axles?

I believe it originally came with auto hubs, so you would push a button on the dash (don't know what it looks like) and then push 4H button. then manually select 4L. If they are manual hubs you get out and lock each hub in, then push the 4H and then manually select 4L, usually you have to be stopped to select 4L.

That connector may have been for the electric shocks these used to come with. As your truck has aftermarket shocks, the connector is no longer needed. They had a soft/hard ride option button in the center console area.

I think the e-hub connector is lower down coming off the frame area in front of the base of the upper spring perch.

didn't know that.

Yes, was for the OEM (Not OME!) shocks, as indicated by the toggle switch in the cab.
