2021 1k miles.

I’m new to the platform so this could be a normal behavior but I get this humming type noise on almost every brake pedal push. This is video from under the hood:

Here is video sitting in drivers seat with vehicle in accessory 2 mode:

Here is video driving. In video at 8, 21, 33, 39, 1:04, 1:28, 1:57.

I don’t think that screeching sound is normal. Is that what you’re calling a humming noise? What year, how many miles and what brake work has been done recently?

Screeching could be a better description… it happens twice in the video.

21 HE 1k miles, no brake work.

I thought that this could be some common thing that new owners think is weird, like the low oil pressure question that pops up on here from time to time.

Here is another example from inside the vehicle, this is what I’m hearing from the drivers seat. You’ll hear it 3 times, it’s immediately after pressing the brake pedal each time.

Yup, perfectly normal.

If its supposed to be that loud… my 15 year old Cruiser has NEVER done anything remotely that audible.

Perhaps your phone is amplifying it…but I’ve never heard that.

I guess I should film it from the drivers position for a proper frame of reference, I will do this tomorrow. I can easily hear it while driving, and I don’t often listen to the radio very loud so that may play a role here. It’s audible from the driving position and was something I first noticed when I first got in the car to drive it a few weeks ago. All braking functions are normal.

I’m going to bleed the brakes this weekend when I pull the tires to check the spider trax torque and see if that makes it different.

Thats too loud then. Never heard that from driver, or even when next to my truck with someone pressing the fat pedal…

Ok, good to know.

Our trucks have a brake booster that increases brake line pressure with a electric pump. Some noise is normal, but I'm concerned that the screeching I heard from under the hood is not right. There is another thread about loud noise at braking, just like you're experiencing. See below. Also, I linked a site that shows a recall for certain Toyotas for the booster. The Land Cruiser is not listed, so this is probably not important. But, all in all I think it's worth having a dealer check it out and document the noise. Peace of mind and all that, even if just a regular sound.

Thanks for the link to the other thread, I’ll post a video of the noise there and see if it’s familiar.

I agree with you about having it checked out, I can’t make that happen for a couple weeks… I figured I outta check here before jumping through those hoops with a dealer visit.

@Artie does what's in the videos accurately represent the sounds you are hearing? or could the microphone and processing be amplifying certain elements of the audio?

I noticed the interior noise from the driver's position the very first time I hit the brakes in my cruiser on the test drive. It wasn't loud, but noticeable. Something of a "hiss" sound, if I had to describe it. So far 70k miles for me without issue, 175 total on the truck.

You pose a very good question and it’s honestly up to each individual ear. There’s the normal squishy ‘hiss’ sound I’m used to on regular hydraulic brakes accompanied by the mechanical type sound following, I’m also looking for that noise so my focus could be the issue. You said you have the same noise when you drive yours then I’d accept that it’s nothing to worry about and move on. I can say it’s less noticeable when driving around once the other ambient sounds of driving are included, I’ll post a video of driving and braking. This is my first vehicle with a electronic brake booster and I drove sh*tboxes in my youth for so long that any unfamiliar noise usually led to a side of the road repair… those instincts haven’t gone away.

I listened with headphones and don’t hear anything I’d be concerned about. If it just eats at you maybe try and find someone else’s low-mile 200 to drive and compare.

I agree the electronic brake booster is unique, and the sound mine makes was new to me too. I don’t even notice it anymore.

This makes me feel better, thanks for listening.
