There's something bolted to the passenger side frame?

damn, i hate seeing these threads. I just know bad things have already happened to the OPs truck without the second one.

Don't take this personal... it's just a forum... you guys suck

It is the genius of Toyota. The engineers knew that we would get years and years of discussion on this mystical appendage to the frame. My truck has been so uneventful as of late I only login here to see if somebody's asked about this part! Cheers.

It's been awhile since we've seen this question. You brought out the wolves! Welcome. :)

It's a vibration dampening device used with the stock running boards. It's so when you're going down the road at high speeds you don't hear it vibrating against the body which causes scratches and can lead to rust if they get down to the bare metal. When you take the stock ones off to replace them with aftermarket sliders you're supposed to remove it.

Nope. That makes waaaay too much sense. It's used by guys in extremely rural areas when they've run out of bricks. It's more of an "emergency brick" than anything.

I still have bricks so I don't feel too bad about taking it off

But then what happens when you lose your brick and your emergency brick???

Took my sliders off to do some rust repair and was visually reminded of that ugly thing. Even though the sliders are going back on soon, I took it upon myself to paint it black (it was rusty). Now the damn thing is growing on me, freshly painted and all.

Only industries like NASA, nuclear, chemical, and explosive require triple redundancy systems. I am within "code' by having bricks and removing the emergency brick as long as I have two bricks or more.

Get rid of it. It's a vibration damper and you won't miss it .
