I need to do the brakes on the LX 570 we just got, and I wanted to check if there was a preferred / upgraded recommendation for pads and rotors? I've read through several posts and have seen a few references to using TRD pads and DBA's 4000 series rotors. Unlike my 100 series, this won't be built out for overland anytime soon. Just normal around town stuff and light off roading.

If you were doing your brakes, would you go with:

1. OEM pads and rotors
2. OEM rotors, TRD pads
3. DBA 4000 series rotors, OEM pads
3. DBA 4000 series rotors, TRD pads
4. Something else - please share details

OEM rotors and OEM pads, or if you want more "bite", the TRD pads.

Just like tire threads, brake suggestions can be all over the place. FYI, I think the Canguro Racing crew had an aftermarket rotor grenade on them taking out a wheel. Now that is an extreme example, but....

Are the OEM ones ceramic? Which means less bite but also less dust on the rims?

trd is conventional which means more bite but more dust on the rims?

On most of my vehicles, I've used BOSCH rotors and centric pads with good results. On the 200 series, I did the same and within 10,000 miles the front rotors were "warped" and giving a very bad vibration on deceleration. I replaced with OEM rotors and TRD Pads up front, and have been good for the last 20k miles. This is with 33" tires, and a little extra weight but not much. I'd recommend OEM rotors and OEM or TRD pads as the best bang for your buck, especially if you do your own work, as the parts are cheaper than the parts plus labor to pay to install lower quality hardware....

I’m sure OEM are not ceramic.
The oem ones (which I think I have) seem to produce very little brake dust...on par with the akebono ceramic pads I used to purchase for my Mercedes.
I think I read some place that by upgrading to trd pads, basically you were changing from the slightly less biting ceramic/akebono type pads to a conventional more bitey metallic trd type pad.
Anyone know for sure?

I decided to go for #4.... DBA 4000 Series T3 rotors and DBA XP pads. They should bee here in a few days.

OE rotors, among the highest quality you can get and surprisingly cheap ordered online. Cheaper than most quality aftermarket.. and those aren’t as good. Parts.autonationtoyotasouthaustin.com is my go-to. Look up a similar year landcruiser to save some money, they are the exact same parts but toyota prices vs lexus.

I really like the TRD pads, but they do dust more, my understanding is they are metallic. Stock is ceramic, producing very little dust and it is light colored. But I’ve compromised a stock pad driving hard.. the material was coming apart. Hasn’t been an issue with the TRDs.

Why the laughter? Was it the typo of "be" (Macbook keyboard repeats letters... need to get that fixed), or did I make a poor decision going with DBA?
I don’t think you made a bad decision. I just enjoyed reading all the responses and recommendations to you and none of them what is what you decided on. I think this is pretty normal at least what I’ve observed in my lifetime. I’ve seen most people already know the answer they’re looking for when they ask a question and then if they don’t get their answer they usually go ahead and go with what they felt in the first place. I’m the same way😜

In my case, it was the Project 200 website and a few old posts here that sealed the deal.

That and this is my first time doing the brakes, so when so many people complain about the high price of DBA pads and rotors (~$1k at most shops, I found some deals and got everything for just over $700 delivered), I compare that to the $1100 that Lexus wants to just replace pads and resurface the rotors and figured "Why not?"

It's Enron style accounting.... I spent $700 on pads and rotors and feel that I saved $400, whereas most would feel like they were overcharged to spend that on just the rotors and pads.

You should be happy. I went with DBA rotors also from posts I had seen back when I did my brakes, but got TRD pads. Are true OE rotors just as good and we aren't really getting any benefit from the slotted wizardry DBA offers... maybe. But for me, the rotors and pads that came on my 200 looked OE and they sucked. Had a lot of life on them but just didn't feel good. I also did a fluid flush and swapped over to braided lines at the same time, so who knows which of those is the true helper.

I got 100k out of factory pads an rotors .. got a price of 605 im
Going fac

Anyone used Hawks SD pads ? As good as advertised ?
Not SD, but I removed hawk LTSs after about 200 miles due to the excessive and more importantly corrosive brake dust. Still trying to figure out how to get that stuff off my rock warriors before I sell them.
