You will be very happy with the kit :)

I was impressed as soon as it showed up just by the packaging. This isn't just something slapped together.

The box is pretty big... And printed in color.

Every step of the way is bagged separately along with the instructions for that step.

This is the headlight circuit, they do not short you on wiring.... And you can see the instructions are full color as well. They also include several connectors.

probably not what you want to hear, but I made my own custom harness re-using the OEM fuse block and using all new REAL good wire (SXL....there is a large difference in the quality of wire and I'll bet the less expensive aftermarkets don't use the best :D) and manually striping the wires to totally keep the factory color codes.

I used the weatherpack connectors for everything I could, and got new spade connectors for everything I couldn't and silicone sealed the OEM connectors after swapping them.

I did this to make any troubleshooting and tracing much easier as you can ask questions online. No-one will have any idea what you have if you scrap the factory codes and go with the aftermarket harness and it's different colors.

Not saying you *shouldn't* use an EZ-Harness or the like, just giving you a different option.

It will definitely be more expensive though....

What did you use to 'manually stripe the wires'? VERY interested in this!:beer:

I really like the centech kit. Look up centechwire.com

They will walk you through any questions you might have. I've even been pestering them about what size wires and relays to use in different setups and they have been more than helpful.

you shouldn't be THAT interested.... :D

totally by hand. hold the paint marker w/ your right hand in such a way that its pressed against the wire and you're thunb and ring finger hold the wire to the marker.
use your left hand to pull the wire between your fingers. the marker will stripe the wire.

I still have the muscle memory from it :D

Can anyone give us an update or some pics as to how you combined the GM type harnesses sold by Painless or EZ with the Toyota connectors? Pin head, Klunky? how about some pics.

If you are talking about a 72 and earlier, you just cut off the GM connector and solder on the terminals for the Toyota connector.

For later cruisers, it's not just a connector issue. The GM type harness doesn't work for 73 and later cruisers because the circuits are different and incompatible. The GM uses 4 wires and uses the same wire for turn and brakes. The later Toyota circuit uses 5 wires and uses separate brake and turn signal wires. You can use wire from a generic GM kit to make up the Toyota brake and turn signal wires, but there is no advantage over just using generic wire, which is a lot cheaper.

If you use a GM column and lights, it is plug and play with a GM harness.

You don't have any easy plug in options, since it is a custom installation.

One way would be to try to use as much of the '78 harness and accessories, switches, flasher, lights, etc as possible to minimize the amount of custom wiring.

Or you could custom wire it with an EZ kit and build the brake and stop light harness yourself using the Toyota hazard switch, flasher and tail lamps.

Or you could use a GM column and stick with the early lights.
