I have a 2004 LC every blue moon my sunroof will leak a slight bit, usually if I open and close it once or twice that fixes the issue. Before I go replacing a bunch of stuff i want to condition the weather stripping to see if that will help.

What is the best thing to use on that rubber piece to condition it?

Thanks

Mix up some dish detergent in warm water. Wipe down the weatherstripping with a sponge or rag to clean the rubber.
After it drys wipe it down with some spray silicone. It will soak in and make the rubber softer for a better seal.

I second 303 Aerospace. I've heard good things on the German lube but have never used it personally.

Yep 303. UV protectant and moisturizes the rubber. Armor-All = evil. :-)

I love 303 and have used it for over a decade, but it isn't as specialized as the Gummi Pflege for this application. GP was made for just this purpose and get's a strong vote.

I had a bad leak in heavy rains. I intended to replace the seal. However, I had our LX in the shop for a radiator replacement (ugh) and asked them to look at the seal. They simply thoroughly cleaned all 4 sunroof drains and now no leak. Just fyi.

Thanks for all the product information, all my roof drains are working proporely so I will put some of the 303 or PG on the seal.

Thanks again

It is a myth that silicone harms rubber. Permatex recommends their product on bushings and weatherstripping to prevent deterioration.
Shin Etsu is also a silicone grease.

But isn't silicone bad for the paint? Or is that just detailing myth? I know it's a problem in the paint booth.

Painters hate it but that is part of the prep and cleaning. I wouldn't use it if I had body work planned.
