Hello folks,

This is my first post, I purchased a 2014 LX 570 with 98K from Carmax yesterday, very clean no rust documented oil changed no collisions. The test drive went awesome. The yesterday we went back to carmax to sign the papers, saw the LX sitting in the express pickup lane. We signed the papers and got the keys and the truck would not start. Salemans popped the hood, I checked the date on the battery, it was 4 years old. The sales manager said for us to have dinner on him while he put a new battery in it. Well guess what happened, blank screen !!! He checked some fuses under the dash. I told him we will drive it home and maybe the screen will comeback on eventually. After spending the night reading all these horror stories I started troubleshooting. When I popped the fuse box from under the drivers area this is what I have found. I do not know what fuse is for the Nav screen. Something looks fried.

Someone tried to get a fuse out without the proper tools.. probably pried at it with a flat-head screwdriver or knife.

It looks to me like if you can get the fuse out a new one will still go in, but I'd also wonder whether whoever did that did any other work on the truck.. that is absolutely terrible.

There is a fuse puller under the lid of the engine-bay fuse box, if you want to try and get any of the others out. As for which is for the nav, you'll need to get the owner's manual out. If it didn't come with the truck they are available on the lexus website.

Thanks for your reply. I am far from being any kind of mechanic. I was worried it was due to water damage. The windshield is not original. I will see if I can get them out. I have 10 days to decide if I want to keep the vehicle. My wife is already in love with it even though there is no radio or back up camera at the moment. Before the purchase I entered the vin in the lexus web site, It appeared to be serviced there solely, but who really knows.

I found the fuse puller, they will not come out. I will just take it back to carmax and let them deal with it.

So these two images from the factory service manual should help out. One shows what most of the fuses do (the blank spots being filled by fuses in your case isn't entirely surprising, these things are complex and sometimes even the manuals aren't correct)

But I'm 100% confident someone went ham on that fuse with a pry tool. Yeah, I'd let carmax sort it out. As I said I believe the block itself is fine so if you get it back with new fuses and everything works, but the damage to the block is still visible, I'd be fine with that. But, if that brown fuse (7.5A) is replaced with something larger like 10/15/20, RUN AWAY.

This is what the ACC fuse controls

I’m a step back on what might have caused someone to do that to the fuses. I assume one was blown and that means there was a short or overload. If it was mine, I would investigate more than just that one fuse. Water intrusion?

And what was going on with the no-start? Why did the battery die in the delivery bay? More electrical problems?

I think the suspicion here is warranted. No one is touching fuses and going ham on them unless they were trying to solve an issue. If you don't get clarity on this soon I personally would lean towards returning the car.

Leak.
Those fuses get water on them when the sunroof leaks.
Battery probably dies from a drain caused by the same leak.
Good luck finding one without electrical problems.
All fixable, but not by carmax.

Thanks for the replys. I am exchanging texts with Jeremy the store manager. He said they are going to take it to the Lexus dealer.

I bet it is this one.
As said let them deal with it. This can be a big headache and for you, new to the 200 and not mechanically inclined an even bigger one.

Its was a Florida car and the battery was 4 years old. It was a Lexus battery also. I will ask them to have the sunroof drains checked also. Thanks

Can anyone recommend where else to check for water issues? I inspected the carpet at the drivers area, it does'nt seem like it ever got soaked. I got my nose down as close as I could, no mold smells. I have it parked in the driveway in the sun with the widows up. Its very humid here, if any mold is in there I am confident i would smell something.

The door sills are good places to look for corroded connectors from water damage. The trim comes off fairly easily.

Why stop a good thing now? Here are some door sill pics. I am dropping off the LX at the dealership on carmax's dime at 9am. Gonna see what all they can do/check out for me. I got up on a ladder but could not find any drain holes in the moonroof. Watched a youtube video on a 460 clean out. Looks straight forward on that vehicle.

This image, and the associated replay of the actions that led to this, make me have redacted feelings. I can literally smell the IQ of the perpetrator, and will require a pallet cleanser now. (snorting some mid-tier Bourbon)

so its 4 grand for the head unit, levinson amp and nav screen? Then 2 grand for install? I approved the work and carmax will pay.
