Preferably some thing that can run on 12 volts.. for a whole nite.
Or
Something small I can run with a 2000 watt gen/inverter.

Must be 5000 btu or better for the hot weather.

Mostly something reliable,

Most of the "typical" RV A/C units I have seen for a smaller trailer are 13.5K BTU and are 110 volt. You'll have to look up the generator requirement.

Just for the heck of it I looked at Dometic website and I saw this. I know nothing about it, just happed to see it. Dometic CoolAir RTX 1000 12V - Parking cooler for campervan and trucks, 1100 W, 12 V - https://www.dometic.com/en-us/outdoor/rv-and-van/rv-air-conditioners/rooftop-rv-air-conditioners/dometic-coolair-rtx-1000-12v-332031#:~:text=Dometic%20CoolAir%20RTX%201000%2012V

There are also evaporative cooler type units you can maybe look into.

Look into portable ACs for a house. You’re going to want to use a generator to run any of them, even the small 6,000 BTU ones pull 1200 watts. You may also run into issues with the AC tripping a GFCI when it cycles on as well as with venting the hot air outside.

The portable style is what I need, was hoping for a recommendation on something proven.

Many small camper owners add a "soft start" to the AC to reduce the start-up amp draw. This lets you get by with a smaller generator.

I’m currently on my 3rd summer with an LG unit. I live in a fifth wheel year round and it runs all summer to keep the bedroom around 60 degrees. I haven’t had any issues with it and all I’ve done is kept up with cleaning the filters weekly.

Edited to add: A standard RV AC unit won’t work on this rig correct? I did a quick google search and saw that it appears to have no hard sides or hard roof, is that correct?

Correct, no hard top or hard sides. and thanks for the recommendation!

I looked at the Zero Breeze but was concerned with it only having 2300 BTUs. Their BTU is way down in the spec's and not advertised.

I am going to test out the 4000 BTU from BougeRV and see if it will work.

AND THIS ONE ...

I believe Georg at Valley Hybrids/Cruiser Brothers has the EcoFlow battery/power banks at a very reasonable price if you go with the EcoFlow. You could easily run solar to the battery/power bank and connect a little whisper gen, get one with auto on so it will monitor the battery/power bank and start auto when needed. The ecoflow batt/power bank would then service your cooling needs and ALOT more with little space used, IMO.

Could you please tell me who makes the whisper gen that monitors?

Have to dig that up, cant remember manuf. There are various manuf that make them, IIRC the one we used was a Tri fuel, batt start and it had a spot on the gen to tie the batt in ( I remember it was clearly labeled and easy which we thought was cool ) and it had an app to monitor your generator, within the app was a setting where you could set the trip voltage of the connected batt with an auto start, seems to me it was a Swedish product.

I'll look up that IIRC and see if I can find it.
Currently I use a champion dual fuel and run it off propane -- avoiding the gasoline odors. It's a small manual pull start 2000 watt one.

I was reading the EcoFlow 5000 BTU and it looks like it can maintain the AC with 400 watts of solar.

Next I will be looking for 400 watt portable solar. When its hot usually it is sunny. Fair weather camping.

Are you in a humid area ? This would help decide if there are other options for cooling the air

Sometimes we are in very hot humid areas camping (Texas or Florida) .. and sometimes it's just hot (Mojave or Moab).

I ordered the Eco Flow version 2 and I'm waiting for it to test it out.

LOL .. N.E VA ... I drove through Truth or Consequences, NM the other week..

I have been using the EcoFlow (without that battery that is optional) now for about 1 year and it has performed flawless.

First one I received the fan blade starting hitting something inside.. after a couple days so they swapped it out.
The replacement has worked ever since.

Works good and is fairly quiet.
