I drove it to the drag strip. I forgot my fire suit. 😉

FIXED MY HORN!

I was asking here about adding an aftermarket horn button on the dash and somebody chimed in and said.... "why don't you just fix the original one?" With no good answer for that question..... that's what I did. So thanks for whoever said that. A real safety item here in crazy SoCal, so I'm glad it's done

I was missing the rubber ring isolater and brush pin up in the steering wheel contact assembly. I found a cool solution here on mud from Cruiser Cult. It's $60 bucks, but that part is awesome. It's actually 3 parts in one and just works!

Also had to buy a new horn relay as mine was blown. Went with the SOR original style. Was probably way overpriced as compared to others, but went in easy and also just worked.

Then, I went with a new plastic horn button center and painted it the same as my seat frames. Tried to do the 2 color with the white triangle, but my hands are just too damn shaky for fine work like that. The mono metallic rustoleum actually looks better in my opinion. polished the little brass ring and powder coated the metal rim.

Functionally, I had 12 volts everywhere, but had to dremel wire wheel all the ground areas that were rusty. Any novices like me, make sure you've got 12 volts at the relay and good ground everywhere. Ground at the column shaft, ground at the relay and gound at the horns. And clean all those connection spots, bolts and threads with a dremel wire wheel or file or something. The rusty ground spots were the key for me after installing the new parts

Simple but fun and satisfying project.

Congratulations. Nice job. That is sooo much better than an aftermarket horn!

Time for the ol’knuckle job . Always a cruiser owner’s favorite

I'm not sure about favorite... swapping in a new front 3rd, newer front housing. rebuilding the knuckles, repacking the bearing, replacing the u-bolts, replacing the brake lines & flex lines, bleeding the brakes, and refilling the gear oil tops it in my book.

The knuckles are a messy job, but with a bit of practice are an afternoons work... rebuilding and replacing the front axle took me a few weeks because of all the steps involved and shortage of time... I put it off for more than 12 years.... I also probably hadn't done the knuckles in 25 years. 🤷‍♂️

Building some brackets for the jump seat bolt down / support that’s under the rear wheel wells. Just a smidge better than whatever the PO did.

Far from perfect but I don’t have a welding table or a good example of an intact bracket so it’s a freehand job. Will be busy this weekend. Should have these finished and installed.

Made a couple of shake down cruises this week. Put 50 miles or so on the ticker.

Hit it this AM with some detail spray.

The truck returned from getting its new exhaust.

The truck didn't have a skid plate, so I picked up a used one and everything tucked above it nicely.

The new stainless headers fit nicely with the heat shield for the steering box that I added a while back.

Some gentle massaging of the skid plate for the resonator.

And added a later model heat shield in the back above the muffler.

It draws attention.

Can’t get out of the convenience store, Ace Hardware or the gas station w/out having a discussion. Put another 40 miles or so on it today. Mostly two lane over in Washington County Ohio. I forgot how “great” the gas mileage is with the 2F and 33” tires..😁

Its pretty wild how fast this thing came back to life, not to mention the quality and beauty of the final product.

Looks awesome!!

I have two skid plates and neither will fit on mine. I’ve tried from every angle.
