Finally received my Raptor black paint for the bed & steps l might do the grey bumper black too, also had a new radiator delivered & the guy l bought the truck from call to say he has the original rad fully restored to send to me, l'm thinking the aluminium rads aren't as good as the original cos the current leaking rad is less than a year old, anyway l'll have a spare between the 2 replacements. quote to get the leaking rad fixed was $380..(that can wait) Cruiseteq.com sent a front prop repair kit & it arrived today (after l paid $80 import tax).., so that's another job to do & the front diff oil seal leak (got the seal) & a new front prop coming from Aus next week (so l'll have a spare prop too) l'm waiting for a Terrain Tamer damper to arrive & a set of OME shocks. Next up a l've decided to buy a new handbrake drum (speedi sleeves plus shipping is around $200 + import taxes.. a new drum+shipping/tax $235).. less work & its direct from Japan. Tomorrow l venture into my local Toyota dealership they've sourced some parts, Rocker gasket & seals along with a complete set of wheel bearings kits ( l know the price in Aus for a set of Ken Tims..$80 pair..front & back.. elsewhere quoted $79 per bearing kit, so Toyota will be getting haggled down hard or l'll walk )....Next week its...sound in motion time...CD player & speakers gets fitted, lighter gets fixed so l can charge my phone & the fogs get reconnected. Then l'll be stalking my postie for my door channel runs & outer weather strips...as l can't start the door rebuilds until its here..it came & it went back to Australia & l've had to have the supplier resend it to me...(some fecking couriers are useless, the Raptor went from Coventry, to Carlisle, to a village 6mls away & the house that received it posted a message online, luckily a neighbours sister recognised the address & messaged him that it was in her village & he told me so l picked it up myself).... otherwise this weeks been uneventful..(1st world problems)..except for the potential nuclear war we're facing & everything else that's going on in the world and its just turned Thursday.

@cims1970fj40 so what makes you think you might have gone stock instead? This is a next project for me. Trying to decide a similar issue

I like the tire to be a little closer to the wheel well like @Flatlanderfj40 by has in his photo above. I’m not planning on doing any off-roading and if I do nothing extreme. Also if I do go back to stock shackles does anyone know if that will cause the axle to be more centered between the wheel well?

I’d go with new shackles std length. Georg and Kurt as well as many others here I’m sure carry. My truck had stock springs and extended shackles with shim in the front. Went Dobinsons heavy with std shackles. Very happy with performance on and off-road. Bilstein shocks too.

Well l ventured into my local dealers for an idea of what parts they can get for the Ute included in their service is.... a free heart attack...
1 wheel bearing kit...Front...£179......Rear..£236...my response... wtf.. l came in to price some parts not buy a new car.. ...& l received a free apology. Oh well nothing ventured but a haggled down price for the rocker gasket & rubber plugs was gained...20% off with a free guilt complex thrown in on my behalf..

I have been remiss on the "what have you done this week" thread. Well, honestly it's mostly been "Drove it", but ain't that grand? :) But I just today received some jump seats from @codyaustin5. These guys are in great shape considering they are 46 years old, and I will soon have them lookin fine when my Cruiser Corps order comes in. As a totally normal human without an obsession, I naturally took half a day off of work to receive my FJ40 parts in person from the UPS man, then immediately started working on them. These will work out just perfect, and I will post other pictures of course when I have them done.

Nothing with mine today but I did see a couple today which is rare for Central Arkansas. Reminded me of a teenager wearing his grandpas original converse high tops. A unique rig and not a bad look.

I'm diggin the Blue Taco with the old school steel wheels and hub caps. Nice retro touch!

Fluid changes. Changed both diffs, transmission, transfer case and oil.

80w90 in diffs, transmission and TC. 10w40 in the oil. Front diff looked like it has some water in it at some point maybe? Oil…black. No idea when the fluids were last changed. Swapped out for the 10mm hex magnetic drain plugs. The plugs that came out had the typical gray matter, but nothing of concern.

Torque specs I used (use at your own risk)
Diffs drain and fill plugs 36 ft lbs
Transmission and TC drain and fill plugs 27 ft lbs
Oil drain plug 20 ft lbs

A few reels of draining…check out that oil.

This was the weekend to flush and pull the radiator. Then attend to any and all rust that I found. Replacing all the coolant hoses too. Fresh coat of paint on the Fan, Shroud, and Radiator Frame. Still deciding if I am going to venture further into the plugged engine block drain hole or if I button it up with distilled water for a while and run it without a thermostat. I am thinking that in a week or two I can "uncork" it and watch the river flow. Or deal with it then.

By the way, what is this port on the water pump for? Or is this a non-standard water pump?

Last question, what is the cloth/fabric material I am finding between the chassis and parts like the radiator frame? I always find massive pitting and rust underneath. I have been replacing it with similar thickness sheet rubber as it won't degrade and does not hold water. Thoughts?
