Wouldn't the D44 be a downgrade in terms of strength?

Dana 44's and Toyota mini axles are pretty much a wash as far as strength. If you spend the big bucks and buy 30 spline Longfields for the front (roughly $600+), then technically it is stronger than even the best D44 alloy axles. There is just more material to work with. The advantage to the D44 is turning radius, bigger brakes, slightly stronger r & p, stronger internal hub design, width, and no f'ing greasy closed knuckle crap. Plus the one I might be able to get from my buddy already has 4.56's, ARB and Moser axles. :)

WOW Jack, that is a bummer man.Which LE did you injure in that task? Hope its nothing serious, like your BACK that had in turn impacted your legs? That would be a BAD thing.Well, for me, the kids are now gone. We have a house again and I have my garage back and a pile of work to do in it...Couple of weeks ago I went to fire up the lawn mower, and the first pull broke the rip cord. For some reason I couldnt get it back to gether to were it worked right, so I took it to a small engine friends house to look at...well, he got it back together, fired it up and it turns out that the shaft is BENT and is essentially toast. Then I remebered that the chillens stuck a nice BIG ass rock out in the middle of the grass that I didnt see and of course HIT. F*$& MOTHER F*#$%R G@wD@*N SON OF A B$*%&!!!!!AAAAAND now since we have our house back, all of the repairs are to come which includes paint, faucets, slider screens, re do my "OFFICE" (the shatter) and some curbing and some landscaping. CHA CHING, CHA CHING, CHA CHING!I might have to put Rusty TLC's engineering skills to work soon on a wiring harness.However...much like Rusty...I have a good STABLE job, a wonderful wife that puts up with my SH$T and good health for us and the family.K

No my back is fine, I had double inguinal hernias. So I had the pleasure of have both of them fixed at the same time. The doctor put in the mesh reinforcement stuff to prevent that from happening the next time.

Sorry to hear about the mower and glad to hear that you have your house back.:bounce2:

Glad to help any way I can. Call me when you get into the yard work stuff, I have skillz;) And I have tools that make landscaping easier.

Carbon Monoxide....I think that means the Cat isn't working right. If it's plugged, too far back to get lit, or your mixture is over-rich I think those are the key points.

Have you taken it out and run it like you stole it lately? Also, changing the oil if it's old. Use a heavier weight than normal in case you have a little oil burning going on. Make sure the thermostat is a 195, and the plugs/wires are in good order.

Gotcha all beat: Had to have...yes have  a rear pinion bearing installed, bearings, rear axle bearings both sides, rear drive shaft and the clincher: A new t-case.

I hope this is IT for an effing while.

But the work did enable me to do: Hole in the Rock Trail, Beef Basin, Lockhart Basin/Canyon, Canyonlands, Moab, Hells Revenge, Steel Bender, Bull Canyon, White Rim Trail and more. Thank God for getting to wheel it post repair expense: Don't think there is enough tequila available otherwise .

So a t-case for the 100 was probably pretty cheap right.

Well glad to see i got this board moving again sorry to hear about the repairs and probs but Look at it this way it could be way worse than we have it now so that being said good to see everyone has something going on and that i got you talking again Lol at least on here

Jack

What were your symptoms on the bearing? I only ask because since the Nevada Trophy, I have a slight "Ping" sometimes when I go into reverse.

I tried telling Spresso to go Atlas...To illustrate the degree of his sickness he replied, "Doesn't fit between the frame rails."

Gotta love it.

Yeah, but the good news it that it gave me access to a sensor, while I look for one. ;)

I have a noticeable driveline vibration. I have removed the front driveline and it is smooth, I have tried stock driveshaft (in phase/out of phase), Slee's DC driveshaft, Ali's Taco DC driveshaft. Ali's was the smoothest (even though it was too short).

While he was here, I crawled under both of them and my front output on the t-case had probably twice as much movement as Ali's. I have replaced the bearing now and it easily cut the movement in half, so I am hoping that was the problem.

If this doesn't fix it, I am going to source a Taco DC shaft. If that doesn't fix it, then I might try buying a new stock rear shaft. If that doesn't fix it, then I am just going to drive it until something breaks...

Jack...your vibe symptom, as we have discussed, is the same as mine. 100% velvet smooth before the 4.88 conversion (all new OEM u-joints at that time too). The new t-case, drive-shaft, rear end bearings and set-up(!!!) have eliminated all vibes except when accelerating between 60-72mph.

As you, I found by removing the front drive shaft it all went away. I'm, once I get back to Ali's or home remove the front shaft again and test it along with checking the rear pinion flange angle.

I subscribed, after taking it to Sean last summer :)mad:) and Driveline Specialties (yeah...right ) on Glendale, to just letting it eventually blow up. Well that strategy gets damn expensive and it probably won't disclose the real issue...only the downstream results from the vibe itself.

I figure as a real last resort I'll convert the damn thing to pt 4wd...not what I want but I can't do this again!

Maybe I need to put that effing cast iron rubber mounted OEM frame dampener back on

You removed the flux capacitor?
Well there you go.

I have to wonder if it is the drive line angle that is causing your issues. I don't recall, does the front DL have a double Cardon joint?

Also have you guys considered asking Robbie if he has any insight?

Dan,
The 100 does not have a DC in either DL. I am going to try to swap Ali's front DC DL to see what affect it has...

OUCH!
So am I to assume this happened on the road somewhere down in that area of those famed trails?
Bitchin reward for the money spent, but sucks.
Is it pretty easy to make that rig part time 4WD?

So where are the pics of the runs?

Here are three teasers

WOW! that second pic is some AMAZING scenery!
I cant wait to wheel that area some day.
Did you lock up in the "hot tub", or is traction as good as they say it is?

Keith: I ran most trails with the front locked. 100's are not as balanced as 60/80 (lighter front / heavier rear) so I used my front locker typically when 80's were rear locked.

Traction is very impressive...which allows scaling those crazy angles!

The middle pic is looking south towards Lockhart from the White Rim Trail.

We covered alot of ground...but even at that I'm already trying to figure out how to get back to Utah for more :)

The traction out there is incredible, it's like being a fly or something.

Totolly sweet pics, Im soo ready to get out there!!!

I need to book a ticket on the next trip!
