what does the ECU store?

The ECU has no idea how much fuel has been run through it. It stores only what is necessary to ensure that it operates.

OR take your odometer and avg mpg and figure it out!

thats what I figured, the numbers for gallons of gas were pretty crazy when i got to thinking about it.

fun game.

assuming most of its life it did 12mpg my old girl is at 17,166 gallons.

THEN assume the average price for a gallon of gas at $3.00 then the cruiser has consumed $51,500.

Lets see,

going off of ENGINE er's method
171,496/12= 14,291*$3.00= $42,874

but then I'd have to adjust for my driving style (conservative 11 mpg even though its probably closer to 10) and for living in the highest gas prices in the nation (the only downside of California. Look up the gas prices in the zip codes of where I live now, 94596, and where I went to college, 93405. The prices are painful/depressing/almost funny they are so high. I also put in Plus, but its a 98 so it did see lower prices in the past, so lets try $3.40)
171,496/11= 15,591*3.40= $53,009 (ouch)

Makes the tires/sliders/lift feel cheap. Fun times

I am playing nice with the AVG has price. It's amazing how much gas money you have put through these.

13,584.53X$3.25= $44,149.72.

and just for fun. I'll estimate a Prius over 12 years @ 30MPG, same mileage as my LC.

5,333.33X3.25=$17,333.32

haha...

Shhhh, they'll take your V8 away!

Or by my (unpublished) calculations, if you had to transfer 7 people and their crap everywhere, the Prius would have to travel many more miles making duplicate trips and ultimately would consume 2.547 times the fuel you have estimated for a total corrected fuel cost of $44,149.72 and by then it would be shot anyway and you would need another one. Meanwhile your cruizer would still be going strong! The Prius might even attract more bullets than you cruizer depending on your neighborhood.

A Scanguage gathers data from ECU and gives current MPG and miles left in tank. Have to tell on every fillup how much it took and it improves its numbers.
