Hi,

I had to move my charcoal canister (I think that's what it was) to get the A/C lines unhooked at the firewall so I could pull my evaporator. When moving it. I noticed the bottom hose (cut at @ a 45 degree angle, like if you were cutting stems of flowers prior to putting them in water) wasn't attached to anything.

1) This is the charcoal canister, right? It was mounted by two bolts just above the a/c lines on the firewall, and has three rubber hoses, driver side, pass side, and directly underneath.

2) Does the hose underneath attach anywhere, or does it just hang down? If so, where, and where would I find it in the FSM? Again, the bottom hose is cut on a slant, like the stem of a rose.

It doesn't seem to be effecting anything as it is, but I'd like to make sure.

Thanks for helping this idiot out.

seems like I've seen them go into a hole cut in the frame. The one w/ a grommet around it to keep the line from chafing...

That is the charcoal canister I'm talking about, right? Does that hole in the frame go anywhere, or is this some kind of vent for the system?

2MK, the hole in the frame is not-on-the-ground for the EPA to bitch about...

:meh:

I'm sure it's my ignorance, but I have no idea wtf you're talking about sometimes Hi.

I'm not snapping wise-ass here; I'm sure it's me.

I'm not being a smart ass. I'm sure as heckfire if they would have ran the return line to something like the pee line on the ACs, straight to the ground or straight into the air, the EPA would not have let Toyota sell us a truck.

The reason I'm almost confident that that's the case is b/c I crossed the lines one time and.....

Had a fuel leak from my frame..........;p

you should have been there for that!

You may be giving me more credit (for knowledge) than I deserve. I'm marginally more comfortable with nuts, bolts, and gaskets, but vacuum lines and wiring still freak me right the F out. I know next to NOTHING about charcoal canisters or how EVAP systems work, just what I Googled today. :o:o:o

Is that bottom tube supposed to hook up to a vacuum somewhere under the hood, or is it supposed to be open to let fresh air into the system? Hell, I'm still not positive if the part we're talking about is the charcoal canister!

Based on this diagram, it looks like it is there to let in fresh air, but I'd still like some kind of confirmation on the location of the canister and purpose of that damn bottom hose.

Again, this is my own ignorance, and I'm trying to avoid :bang:

I'll translate Hilux's jibberish:

Yes, that is your charcoal canister. That bottom hose is just a vent to keep it from getting pressurized, it just hangs down and doesn't connect to anything. The proper configuration is to stuff it into the frame, look for a hole with a rubber grommet in it. But, I doubt it really matters.

Hilux, you need to go back to high school and re-take English Composition. You fail at writing.
