I have seen a couple threads where it is talked about how hard it is to start these wonderful machines we all love so much, so my question is:
How do you start yours?
When I got mine the guy told me the carb needed to be rebuilt because the gas would leak out and wouldn't start. After some expiermenting I have figured out the secret combo to getting it to start. Even on 30 degree mornings yeah it still gets that cold up here.

turn key to on pump twice full choke turn over little bit of pedal and shes up and running, I say she beacause only a woman could be this much work..and fun...at the same time.

I don't have a choke cable. Coupla pumps and she fires right up.

Omg Tcb, Me Too! Lol

Depends on how long it's been sitting. Let me just say that it was infinately easy to do after I rebuilt my carb.

Two pumps of the gas pedal. Choke half out if its cold. Fires right up, but I still am going to rebuild the carb.

i DD my truck and find that if i pump the pedal it is harder to start. only when it hasn't been driven in a while do i pump and then start. i think i'm blessed with good working parts so far.

i just installed a new choke cable last weekend. i feel that gives me more starting power. not really, but it is nicer to have better control over the choke.

I never seem to have that problem with my 62...

I turn the key, it always goes crank, crank, crank - fire up. I even ran down my battery so low that it went cccrrrrraaaannnnk, cccccccrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaannnnnnnkkkkkkkkkk, ccccccccccccccccrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnkkkkkk, and then fired up.

I always wanted to use one of these in a post, so here goes :flipoff2:

Used to be double pump, pull the choke and it may take a couple of times but it would start. Since the rebuild with a total desmog, its just turn the key.

With stock carb? Summer morning, pump once, pull choke and crank while pressing down on pedal. Winter morning? Pump 30times+, pull choke and crank while pressing down on pedal.

Now with Weber 38/38. Summer, crank while giving slight throttle. Winter, pump twice and then crank while giving slight throttle.

It completely depends on the temperature.

Cold (below 35 F): Pump several times, pull full choke, crank, push in choke half, let it warm a few seconds, push in choke 1/4 and let it warm for several minutes. This procedure allows me to drive away with a warm engine.

Warm (above 40 F): Pump twice and crank. Sometimes I might have to pull choke 1/2 for a second if it has not ran for over 12 hours.

Each person has their own method cause each truck has its own quirks. You will find yours.

On my FJ62 - cold, crank, crank, crank, vroommmmmmm....
hot, crank, vroommmmmmmm
warm... crank, crank, crank.. vrooo - sputter - sputter - puff of blue smoke - gas - gas - vroommmmmmm.....

bad seals?

On mine, couple of pumps (my choke doesn't work), turn the key while pumping a little. Sometimes it doesn't crank right away and if I keep cranking it seems less likely to start. I stop cranking after a few seconds and start the whole process again. It might take a few tries but it eventually always starts. That is after a couple of days of working from home and not driving anywhere. If it has been started the day before or that day it always fires on the first try.

Below 40F-Choke, 4 pumps, fires in one crank.

Above 40F-1/2 choke 4 pumps, fires one crank.

Above 10,000 feet and below 30F-- Full choke, many pumps, crank about 50 times, brief panic, crank another 50 times, crank another 50 times -- chugga, chugga, sputter, sputter, cough, cough, run badly for 2 minutes, then smooths right out...

cold: 10 or so pumps, trun the key, pump some more with the choke all the way out, drive for a few minutes, then choke goes in

warm: same as above
