Hey folks,

I am thinking about going to check out this 04 LX with 120k miles. It is a New England car so rust is a concern. In a perfect world I would find a local truck that someone did their best to hold back the rust. That said, I am willing to accept some rust. But I don't want to buy a truck that might give me additional maintenance cost due to rust. I have zero knowledge of what to be looking for. So here are the pictures the dealer sent me of the trucks undercarriage.

What do you guys/gals think?

doesnt look bad to me. Most pictures you take make the under carriage rust look much worse than reality. all looks superficial

If I wasn't in a hurry, I'd pass. Nothing worse than working on rusted bolts on the suspension and exhaust. It's a huge pain in the ass, in case you've never had to before. We are lucky out west. Expand your search!

the guy looking lives in MA so it's gonna get surface rust no matter what. The exhaust will need to be changed out in the near future anyway and shops are experts in getting exhausts in and out. To me it's not bad, especially if everything else is solid.

I just got lx470 that has almost same rust from NY. It's only surface rust and won't hurt.

I know backhome they spray the undercarriage with fresh oil coat which helps preventing rust to expand. Additionally, you can minimize the rust with some cleaning and greasing joints and spray bolts with w40!!!

That's my ideas.

Doesn't look that bad

I live up in maine and have seen Much worse

I spray the undersides of mine with fluid film and it stops more rust and lubricates and I don't have much trouble with rusty nuts and bolts.

Do you really think you will own it long enough that rust will become a major issue?if you treat it I bet it will be a non issue

Ask the dealer to drop the spare tire that is a thing that usually rusts up

If someone was servicing the spare tire winch likely it had been well serviced

John
