Hey guys

Dissent doesn't officially rate their hitch, but I know smaller offroad trailers are fine and I assume it's at least as strong as a typical Reese/ Curt/ whatever hitch.

BUT:
I got to decide whether to add a 7pin to my van or to my LC100 in order to pull a 22ft Airstream in October.
What would you do?

It's incredibly expensive to achieve and maintain a tow rating and/or airbag compliance certificate for aftermarket parts. Besides ARB who has class 3 tow ratings on some of their bumpers, almost no one else does (Dissent, Slee, BIOR, Valley Tech, etc..). The cost is just too high to justify it. That does not mean it cannot tow, just means it's not certified through DOT, DMV, NHTSA, etc. That shouldn't deter you though; tow ratings are based on more than just hitch strength. They factor in suspension stiffness, braking capacity under load, and overall vehicle weight (plus other things I’m missing that I'm sure someone else will call out).

As for the 7-pin question, it depends on what kind of van you have. I see your LC100 is a '99 so it has the 4-speed. Depending on the transmission & engine setup in the van, you may find it easier to tow with that. Regardless, the LC100 shouldn't have an issue with the Airstream.

Thanks for the input.

The Van is a 2006 Ford E350 Extended, lifted on 35's and rear diff regeared to get back to "stock" ratio, RWD locked, ~8.500lbs weight when packed.

If that's the 5.7 w/4-speed+OD then I would probably choose that to tow. That'd be like choosing a 200 over a 100

Between those 2 I'd probably go for the e350 for towing. If you're going for style points though the airstream would look cooler behind the cruiser ;)

Also need a photo of that airstream too. I'm starting to shop around for one myself.

I'll borrow it from friends for that specific trip due to elderly joining. Generally got the Cruiser to get places the van doesn't take us, so not planning on more trailer trips :-D
But once I have it in Oct I take a pic with both vehicles for the sake of completeness ^^

But yeah, confirms my thoughts: heavier pulling vehicle generally makes sense.
