Okay, I decided to purchase a 2000 Cruiser and move from the 80 series.. Here is what I'm planning to purchase..

2000
White
1 Owner (carfax verified)
117k
New tires
Good condition
Price $14,000

The troubles I'm having are I called the dealer and they have a 60k service but nothing else.. The people I'm buying from are car people and have many high end cars. This was just a total wife driven mall princess..

They do not however remember if they did the 90k, seem to be very square people that don't need the funds but just can't find the records on the car..

So would you still buy it not knowing? The guy says they had the oil changed every 3,500 (not at the dealer) and that it runs great.. I guess I'm just wondering if at $14,000 it's a good enough buy I should take it even if the 90K hasn't been done?

Any thoughts?

Find out where they serviced it at and have the records check.
Sometimes you just need to go with your gut feelings.

I think that is a great price, based on what I paid for my 99 3 years ago (22k)and sold it for 1 year ago (16.5k) with 135,000 miles on it.

I know all the controversy about the timing belt and water pump at 90k, but if it's in very good condition, you could always split the difference and have the timing belt and water pump done at 150k.

I just wouldn't assume it was done unless they could produce the records.

Thats a great price. I'd jump all over it.

An LC like that would go for 20k+ here in WA state....

I'd be most concerned about the oil changes. Was it changed every 3,500 or did they let it go 10,000 to 20,000 miles. Find out where they had it changed and call to see if computer or paper records are available. With at least some of the oil change records, the risk is reduced and it is worth $14k. Without proof of the 90k service, you must assume it wasn't done. Plan on doing the timing belt, water pump, serpetine belt, spark plugs, all the fluids, air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve and gromet, grease the drive shafts and front wheel bearings, and check the brake pads.

If they are sure the 60K was done and not sure about the 90K - guess what? It was not done. It is now at 120K and needs the tune up also.

It sounds like it is in good condition and the price is good. Figure on tune up, timing belt, water pump, starter, and all new fluids (synthetic). If it drives really well as is, I would feel it was worth it and pleased I could do the critical maintenance myself - done right. I suspect the oil changes were done as they claimed, but even if not, the 4.7L is one of the best on oil.

Well, I pulled the trigger on this deal... Shipping is $375 so that isn't ahuge deal either... In the end, it's a little risk but I don't mind knowing I did the PM the way I would have wanted it done, better then having some bosch plugs in there if you ask me... I don't know for fac tthat it wasn't done but I'll find out soon.. The up side also is that I got almost 30k extra out of the belt without the worry/risk on my end so I don't think I'll ever have to do it again...

I'll post pictures later in the week when I can up date you all on my first 100 series purchase...
