I have a tiny rust spot at the bottom of my drivers side A-pillar right above the front fender. I live in Southern CA and I've never seen rust before. What can I do about this to ensure it doesn't get worse and start eating my car? Are there any products/chemicals I can use to "kill" the rust after which I can slather in some clear coat or something?

If I sand it myself, I'm sure I'll make it look terrible and if I have to pay a body shop to remove the fender, sand, paint and reassemble, it will cost $250-$350 (and I'll get no psychic bang for those bucks, my car won't look noticeably better).

Thanks

Geez, you should see my truck. If that is all I had, I would consider it brand new, totally rust free.

Research POR 15 - never used it but many swear by it.

Take care of it now before it get worse and more expensive.

Pep Boys, AutoZone, and others sell a "spot sanding pen" that is usually near the touch up paint. It uses bundles of small fiberglass filaments (about the size of fiber optic fibers) for sanding. Use that to get to shiny metal, then touch up paint. My '06 had a couple of nicks like this on the passenger fender just forward of that point and this is how I "fixed" them.

The little sanding stones intended for use on dremel tools or drills will let you get the rust out. Then apply a touch up paint with a fine paint brush or toothpick.

Unfortunately I have dozens of rock strike chips in the leading edge of the hood and quite a few on the A-pillars. Many show a bit of rust. I'll eventually need to respray.
