The new duratrac RT? Did you get some for testing before they released?
Believe they started shipping last week in September in select sizes. By Dec the full line in both should be shipping.

Did a short little trip. From North of Spokane Wa down to Bozeman, then to Cody Wy, down to Steamboat Co, Ouray / Telluride Co, over to Moab Ut, SLC Ut, and home up through Sun Valley and Sawtooth NRA. Close to 4,000 miles towing the ‘Pod over big passes and through 90* hot desert with zero issues. Only 400,000 on the clock. Just another day for the ‘03.

Oh, and a quick stop in at the TLC Heritage Museum in SLC with a quick meet up with Dan. Quite a world he has there! If you’ve never been, put it on your to do list!

What is the point of the RT? Looks like a more city version of an already great tire. Doesn’t seem to be very different, or am I missing something?

3 ply sidewalll is the main change, along with DuPont Kevlar overlay. Took a great tire and made it better. Or so it should be.

23 original Duratrac sizes will remain ‘in-line’ (basically LT) with the hard metric (20-35 sizes) being the Duratrac RT; boasting Kevlar in the tread zone shoulder to shoulder, updated sidewall, durawall, 3PMSF, no more white letter (too expensive and consumer won’t pay), no pins for studs, chip/chunk compound.

We have customers coming in with >100k on sets of Duratracs…Goodyear doesn’t like that

Yep, the sidewall has been the complaint recently (last 2 years) so it’ll be interesting to see what’s been done to address it.

Sidewalls have ALWAYS been the main complaint with the DTs. I might even buy a set now if they have beefed them up. A friend with an 80 went through 3 sidewalls in a matter of two weekends back in the day. Turned me off on DTs for a long time.

Put a set of 295/65R20 Hankook Dynapro XT on the ‘08. This tire is 3PMS rated - the only of the new breed of “hybrid” tire I have seen - and I am thrilled with it so far. Smooth and tracks perfectly on FS roads, smooth and tracks perfectly through winding canyons (no under or oversteer that has to be ‘managed’), quiet.

Tiny bit of body mount rub at full crank on the driver’s side, but I have the chop kit plates from Coastal Offroad and will do that shortly. No need to mess with the pinch seem (this is a 35.5” tire) and for the first time I am thinking “keep the 20’s, it’s perfect”.

Went to a wedding in the WNC mountains. She looks like she belongs in the mountains.

The cargo area wasn't as big of a problem as I thought hauling coolers and other partying goodies + dog

Careful! It looks like there is a dirt smudge on the DF tread!!!
WHERE?! I notice a rock in the treads too!

But unfortunately, she probably won't see too much mud in her lifetime. I have a 25 year old mini truck for that =D

My son came home with one. ‘08 Limited same as mine. Has Method wheels I’ve wanted but haven’t wanted to pay for so there will be some swapping around and then eventually 285/75R18 for those rims. He’s doing 17’s. I took the Yakima crossbars as well, now the Yakima box will stop kissing the roof.
