Did a check on valve clearances which were all within spec
one question though, when lining up the dots on the back of the cam gear at TDC with Cyl 1 at TDC I would have thought the tips of the cam lobes would be pointing straight up away from the shim buckets. I watched Ottrams video and noticed the same - thoughts?

I just purchased a christmas tree tag from my local forest service office and the gal behind the desk looked at me like a deer in the headlights when I asked her if the permit was either sex or male only
If that did not solve the problem, pressurizing the cooling system may help locate the problem.

Recently I replaced the speedo o-ring on the t-case and my throttle cable. The new throttle cable was noticeable immediately, so it’s made it fun driving around which is all I’ve been doing lately. Love this truck.

Newbie to the forums, and really to wheeling in general. Just got my '97 LC off of BaT a couple months ago. Have been enjoying learning and playing. I've had an '10 FJ for 10-years and never taken it off-road - just my commuting vehicle with comfy Continental A/T's which are quite nice on the highway. 
I've not done much to the LC, yesterday replaced the two batteries with X2Power Premium AGMs... prior owner/builder had a 24F main and a 34/78 for the second... I didn't want to change from what he had, so kept the setup, but after seeing the AH ratings, seems like two 24Fs would have been better. Is fine with me... like I said, I'm a newbie and learning as I can.
Vehicle has went everywhere I've asked it and that's been a lot of fun here in the foothills/mountains of the southeast US.
Pic below is after a really fun trail we found (wasn't listed on OnX at least)... after a long descent with a couple of washout gullies, big/long one with a bypass I guess for those not willing to try them, several mud holes, and several really tight turns, and then a relatively short rocky area, dropped down in to the river fording that is in the pic below after we crossed it. The river was solid rock/ledges at the crossing and for quite a bit up/downstream from it. Gorgeous place.

looking for right vent louver or both and interior gray door handle frames (just the rectangular part) if you have any of these for sale.

Do those louvers do anything?
They cover a rear “one-way” vent. I say that in quotes because it’s supposed to allow air out not in but you know how that goes.
I think the issue is most people think it just pops off and on, but it actually has a bolt on the bottom that is secured via a nut on the inside corner. They pry at it a break the plastic that holds the bolt.
Ask me how I know lol.
I've never broken the bolt, but I have several with the top tab broken
