What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (38 Viewers)

I replaced both u-joints on my front shaft, which solved a clunk but not the godforsaken squeak I've been chasing for months. It sounds like brake or bearing squeaks between 10 and 14mph, and it even stops when I brake, so I pulled all four calipers, removed any stuck rocks, and regreased everything. I repacked the front wheel bearings. I once thought it was coming from the front, but I'm no longer sure that's the case. I think it actually tends to make the noise on uphill runs.

I put it on stands to spin the wheels, and even ran it at 10mph off the ground, but it won't make the noise unloaded. What can I do to narrow down where this is coming from? I thought about taping a cell phone to the diffs and the t-case, but I don't think that will tell me anything more than I already know.

Maybe it's the metal shield on the pinion flange? They get dented or bent pretty easy, and if you took the load off of it by drooping the suspension it could take a bit of relief off of the shaft enough to make the squeak disappear? This is just the first thing that popped into my head, and also a cheap easy fix.

Got most of my new prinsu rack installed yesterday...need to put the rest of cross bars on and debating whether to put on the front wind fairing ... Thinking what's the point ? Just pushes more air ... Any reason why it's a benefit ? To any one else with a prinsu !

I would definitely run the front fairing on the rack. There was a distinct difference in wind noise and drag (slightly worse fuel economy) when I had my fairing off for a few weeks.

Started picking the top of my hdt, making it ready for cnc.
Was missing a tool to get the springs out, so I’m getting that tomorrow, if you guys don’t have a magic trick up your sleeve.

I'm aiming for a fairly complete restoration:

( I forgot to take my before photo until after I changed the first two screws )

The slight difference in the handle screw is one of the differences between a 94 vs. 95. In 95 the head got slightly larger, and the 94 screw is no longer available.

Mine is black tape but the photo below is grey. Don't use standard electrical tape. Use the Toyota tape shown in the link below. It is self vulcanizing. Electrical tape will turn into a sticky mess rather quickly and unravel.

Mine is black tape but the photo below is grey. Don't use standard electrical tape. Use the Toyota tape shown in the link below. It is self vulcanizing. Electrical tape will turn into a sticky mess rather quickly and unravel.

There is a clip on the hose (lower red circle) that inserts into the clip on the dipstick (upper red circle). Basically, that hose is attached to the dipstick for support and routing.

Followup.

The clip shown by the yellow arrow is supposed to be at the line Toyota put on the hose shown by the red arrow. That clip snaps into the clip, shown by the red circle, on the dipstick. They snap together easily and come apart easily.

Mine broke and wouldn't snap back together. OEM part number for my 94 is 90464-00698, about $2.

I'm on 3s but would like to jump to 5s to track a bit straighter on the interstate.

I have a cv shaft in the front cut down from Toyota shaft. I also have rear upper and lower adjustable. I don’t do much over 90 mph if ever, highway speeds 70 to 80
With the old arms that had blown bushings I got de acceleration vibes when letting off the throttle or the grrrr, now no vibes, 4 inch lift
