pulled the rear 3rd member out of mine for the umteenth time due to what I assume is a bad pinion bearing. hopfully this is the last time for awhile.

I replaced my distributor o-ring on a whim yesterday. I was perusing the 80-series tech page and saw the old thread on replacing this o-ring and went out and looked at mine and sure enough it was leaking. I knew I had a small oil leak, but for some reason never put two and two together and didn't suspect the distributor, but it was definitely leaking. The old o-ring actually broke into pieces when I removed it. Hard as a rock.

Replacing the o-ring is very easy, but I confused myself on resetting the ignition timing. I re-installed the distributor and basically just put the distributor back where it was (as defined by the clean spot where the bolt/washer was). When I started it up, it idled high (around 1100 rpm). I checked the timing and had to rotate the distributor from where it used to be get the timing set. I drove it around the block a couple of times with the distributor in the "old" position and it was pinging under load. I ran out of time, but left it reading 3* BTDC with the jumper installed and about 6* with it out. It runs fine, so I'm assuming it's OK, but I thought it was odd that I had to rotate the distributor from where it used to be. Surely I wasn't a tooth off on the drive gear?

So, I've installed a winch in my front bumper but I don't want power on all the time. The negative connector on the 80 is becoming deformed from retightening every time I disconnect it. Can I leave the negative connected and just remove the positive to the winch?

You could just install some kind of disconnect in-line. Blue sea makes some nice units and I am thinking about adding one to my winch connection for the same reason. Need it flip it on, not using it, flip it off.

And yes you can just disconnect the power lead as well.

Thanks. I actually picked up a Blue Sea on/off switch from West Marine here in Knoxville. It's pretty hefty though and I haven't decided where I'm going to mount it yet. I didn't know if I needed to worry about the positive dangling and touching something. That's probably more of a concern with the negative.

Are you disconnecting the lead from the battery or the + lead at the winch? If it is the latter then yes you would have to worry about shorting that hot wire on the chassis. If you disco at the battery you will be fine.

I'm disconnecting it from the battery. I'd take off the negative too except for the soft clamp which gets a little more deformed every time I retighten.

Pics or it didn't happen Joe. I need to order a new ground cable myself. Trail ready now.

Awesome Joe!

Cool, did the HF fairlead fit the ARB?

I had actually bought a new Warn fairlead in anticipation of one day mounting a winch (since the ARBs were built for Warn winches). When I compared the HF fairlead to the Warn, the dimensions were identical. I figured I'd mount the HF now, then when I get around to synthetic line, mount the Warn.

Winch looks great Joe! Maybe we can find a reason for you to use it on the 8th. :)

Finally got the rear 3rd member back in, put a set of brake shoes on the rear, finished up a few odds and ends before next weekends ride.

Sweet! How does it work? Did it make a big difference?

Notice anything clean and shiny.

Nice Hunter. Had much time to tune it yet, or just getting it bolted on?

Man a turbo and a locker, that think should walk on. Now you just need 4 matching tires and you'll be set. :hillbilly:

Jynx he has one tire for every type of trail he's set.

Yes it's a world of difference. I can run 65 and stay there the whole time. It's been on for almost a week and I thinks it's tuned in pretty good. It seems to be efficient and much quieter than before ha ha. As got the tires I do have one for every occasion.
