For sure! There should be a lower Tariff on over 25 years old.

Maybe, but then there would be 100 other exemptions and exceptions to the rule vs. a blanket policy.

Realistically this should have happened a long time ago.

I already have people messaging me about buying more cars now since I already sell them at almost a break even level

Negative.

They are exempt from the blanket auto tariffs. They are not exempt from the country specific tariffs.

Japan is 24% + 2.5% older tariff = 26.5%

If that's the case, that sucks. The good news is the reciprocals will go away once countries start giving in.

False alarm! Looks like 25 year cars are exempted from the additional tariffs.

Not that I doubt you, but do you have any documentation for this? I've heard it both ways recently, the EO about automotive tariffs doesn't specify new or used so I wasn't sure. I would assume that the tariff would be calculated on country of origin rather than country of export (such as importing a JDM vehicle from Canada would still incur a Japan tariff?).

It’s already changed again.

10% blanket tariff + 2.5 auto tariff = 12.5%

Per my export broker in Japan. I have another vehicle coming next month, so we’ll found out then.

Now is the time to get the best deals in auction due to buyer tariff cold feet. Bidding competition is more likely to be sparse.

you fail to mention that the HZJ77 has been both graded as a 3 and R. That thing is clapped out with accident history.

Even so, it still sold for 12k in that condition.

What I've learned the past 8 months is buyers in the US don't really care. They just want to pay the lowest price possible, that's it.

I've sold 4 grade cars and 2 grade, and R grade cars all for almost the same price because that's just what the market dictates.

Ones that are graded 3-4 and listed for 20-25k in the US just sit for an eternity and sometimes never sell because people will gladly buy something priced 10-15k lower that's still acceptable to US used car standards.

I’m sure someone would care if you’re selling them a car with accident history and not disclosing it.
