I'm purchasing the updated rear one-piece "LANDCRUISER" badge for my '98. But I'm really uncertain as to which color badge would look as close to stock as possible. Toyota never made the LC in Desert Bronze Metallic after 2000 so I'm struggling with these three options:

1. Gray
2. Dark Gray
3. Silver

The other colors are not relevant with the possible exception of Beige but not sure that will fit. Here's our truck for reference. Looking for honest options sans blacking everything out with plasti-dip. Not a black it all out kinda guy.

leave it alone or just go spend $10 on a can of automotive paint in any color you want. if you don't like it, repaint it another color!

I would be happy to de-badge it completely and call it a day, but when I was removing the "TOYOTA" part, the paint underneath peeled off. Previous owner had a crummy paint job put on and the emblems were put on too quick. Needless to say, it looks terrible where the "TOYOTA" used to be so I just wanted to cover the whole section with just the 1 piece LANDCRUISER emblem. In any case, I can see I'm on the wrong forum again :-) You guys are awesome, hard-core, and someday our truck will graduate to rig status. I already took out the passenger side of my bumper wheeling while kissing a tree. ARB upgrade is on the list. As for the tire shine, blame the carwash people. I don't use tire shine. I wash them and call it a day. Not sure why people like their tires looking like there's clearcoat on them  I'm probably paying for that shine too. I'll have to ask them to nix the shine. Never used this car wash before until now...I have a couple of coats of liquid glass on the truck too. Now that, I like.

Another possible option... Strip the paint and chrome plating off the existing plastic emblems and re-paint... Lots of "how to's" on youtube... Here are a couple:

Also - If you ever install a rear bumper with swing-outs you won't be able to see any of the emblems on the back of the truck anyway...

Wow I had no idea cleaning products would do that... This seems like a dumb questions but would this work on Toyota gold 'chrome' as well? Guessing it's the same type of crap...

I think some of you are missing what I'm asking for. I'm installing a newer model one piece LANDCRUISER emblem in place of the old one. The one piece is color coded so I need to match my bumper color I suppose so it looks nearly factory. This will hide where I destroyed the paint while trying to debadge. Here's Rob Red's article on how to update the rear look. Scroll down to the bottom photo and you can see the emblem and he also lists color codes:

Dude, it's an emblem... who cares.

I do. I was simply asking for opinions. Rob red posted an entire FAQ on updating the 98 to 2007 look so obviously I'm not the only one. We all do things differently. Relax and go have some chocolate milk.

Pay attention class...

He removed the TOYOTA badge that's before LAND CRUISER. When doing so, it also removed the paint. He either has to repaint, blob on touch-up paint, or put a 03-07 rear emblem set. I personally wouldn't go the touch-up paint route, so the emblem is actually the cheapest fix considering the only two options left.

As far as color, I don't think you're going to match your bumper. Your best choices are essentially black, galactic gray (way too dark and too much blue hue), or thundercloud metallic (lighter than the bumpers). Thundercloud is the closest match to your bumpers. You could also go with black, then just black out the other emblems for now with plastidip. Later, when you add steel bumpers, they will also be black so it would look somewhat "planned" even if it wasn't.

Incredibly refreshing. Thank you so much. I wondered if the galactic gray was too blue. Ok so black or thundercloud. Got it. And yes, you got it totally right. While removing the badges the paint completely botched up underneath. Used floss and a heat gun on low setting but the last owner put the badges on immediately after the repaint so yeah, it's either touch up or just cover it with the one piece emblem. Thank you again. Pointed me in the right direction. I like the idea of matching it to my ARB metal. Win.

Glad that helped. Also, I'd make sure to put some paint on that exposed primer before sticking another emblem over it. Even if you just masked off, lightly scuffed it up and hit it with some rusoleum enamel it would help to seal the surface. Primer doesn't seal it, but paint does. That way you won't have unseen rust growing behind that new blingy emblem. :)

I'm not because I removed the old gold emblems and updated at the same time. Your problem is there wasn't that color anymore. That leaves you with either getting black or painting it. OR just leaving your stock chrome alone or painting it.
