I'll try to make it short..

I always park away from others. Went to the grocery store yesterday. As I walk out, I see a small suv park close next to me despite of all the other spots around. The driver gets out and walks to the side of the LC. I start to walk faster and hit the keyless entry button. He hears the click, startles him and looks like to be pretending like he was texting. He sees me and starts asking about my roof rack and walks away. Fishy?

Just keep your valuables out of view. Thieves tend to target cars with items of value that they can see. Nothing to see and they're likely to move on. Glock would be useless in this scenario, but a carjacking would make for a much more interesting story...

Nothing valuable was in it at the time. I usually keep it clean and empty when I'm around town. Stock non-navi stereo still in it.

I also agree with a weapon being useless at the time. Can't always be around when your vehicle is about to be broken into.

I no longer lock my doors. Or leave anything of value in it. Lucky to live in a low / no crime area.

What is wrong with your OE alarm? Anything more than that is overkill, since you be dealing with highly motivated thief beyond that.

I live in little rock Arkansas where if it isnt bolted down it walks off. Nobody has car insurance, most have stolen plates, full jails, highest sales tax other than chicago, gangs, rapes, home invasions, we have car alarms, home alarms, stainless steel plated dead bolts and waning property values.

Southern culture

None- I live in the country now. I've always just locked my cars if I felt it warranted. Always had the habit in the city/suburbs/anyplace else unfamiliar.

Grew up in the inner city Midwest though, having your car absolutely bare inside is the best. If you must leave something in it cover with a jacket or coat in the floor. Camouflauge always helps.

What's valuable? Almost 20 years ago I had someone break the glass for a pack of Camels and about $0.37. Only car-related theft I've had ever (knocking wood right now...)

Use the protection of the herd. You park amongst others your less noticeable. You park away on your own and you stand out.

In Texas, it’s a bit of a ‘castle doctrine’ question. He’s free to do anything he wants right up until he makes a move to the vehicle. Fortunately, or unfortunately, you just happened to be in the right place to deter him.
I wouldn’t EVER confront anyone. Suspicious or otherwise. But that’s not to say I wouldn’t keep my eyes on them and start reaching for a carry pistol and ammo and get in the vehicle.

From a CHL perspective the issue becomes a) did you brandish the weapon for no reason and 2) was he threatening the vehicle in any way.
Best situation is to get in and drive off. Thieves are afraid of cell phone cameras more than you’d realize. It’s too risky to confront in this day and age unless you can get in a position where you’re safe and armed.
