Link to the Manufacturer's website: Silverwing Roof Hard Shell Tent SWT90

Does anyone have any experience with this hard shell roof top tent? Anyone own it? Used to own it? Love it? Hate it? I'm coming up short on reviews/user input for it...

Product Specifications:
  • Interior dimensions: 82″x48″x39″
  • Exterior open dimensions: 86″x51″x41″
  • Exterior closed dimensions: 86″x51″x11″
  • Weight (unpacked): 154 lb
  • Shell material: Reinforced ABS shell
  • Tent fabric: Water resistant 600 Denier Oxford fabric
  • Mesh size: 75 Denier polyester
More details are on the website.

COSTCO has it for $500 off the manufacturer's price. The reviews I've seen were positive, but very few...how come nobody talks about this thing?

I just ordered one.

I will get a good look at it this afternoon and report back to you guys. The exterior looks great great

I got some time to inspect it and take some pictures. It looks well built. My only knock so far is the meta latches seem a little jenky. The cushion pad is decent, comfy enough for me. They have these little cushion pads to insert corners to fill The void where the shock arm collapses. It pops up pretty easy and quick. And it collapses pretty easily too. Setup is about 2 minutes. Packing up is about the same.

Any further thoughts on this tent? Costco is still selling them and for the price it doesnt look bad at all

I first and only used mine at HIH 9 in Colorado. It rained every night and some how water managed to get in. I had all the zippers right and everything. For this reason I took it back to Costco. I wasn’t soaked or anything. But for a brand new hard shell tent, it was unacceptable.

Thanks for the update. I was really hoping this was gonna be the ticket especially with the costco return policy. Looks like I just have to keep trolling c-list or FB market place for a reasonably priced hardshell.

That's a big bummer. Thanks for the info! Maybe the manufacturer will fix that issue in the future.

Does anyone know if the ladder and its overhanging cover can be attached to the passenger side to allow climb up and entry on that side? (I'm assuming 'yes' given how large the side openings are)

The passenger side has the large window you could use to get in and out of. I don't think the overhang is designed to work on that side. you could always mount it backwards? I am not sure how that would affect aero dynamics though.

Any other people with these? Costco is still selling a different Silverwing model, and I’m wondering if the hard shell version will be back in stores next season.

We got one this spring (March) from Silverwing, overall it works good-big thing for rainy weather as we thought ours was leaking too, is to open one or two windows an inch or so, let’s the condensation out which is what it turns out our problem was. I built a little different ladder hooks, the Velcro loops didn’t seem super strong-personal preference. I added two layers of 1/2” anti fatigue mat under the foam mattress and it did wonders for comfort.

Took it out last weekend, had wind gusts in the 45-50 mph range coming from all sides (when we parked the wind was from the front of the rig, two hours later the wind changed direction and picked up speed greatly and blew all night) the tent stood up great.

My biggest gripe is the tent top, the metal latches are junk-they plug up with dirt and they rust; the other problem is the ABS top, I feel like it’s either a material problem or it was damaged somewhere along the way in shipping. The company has not been responsive for help. The pics of the damage are from August and the cracks have gotten significantly worse since then-I was told if I am worried about it leaking water then epoxy it otherwise just live with it.

Overall I think it’s a decent entry level tent, I just wish Silverwing would stand behind the product a bit better.

This is what the cracks are turning into
