After being stationary during a rain storm, I have a wet carpet at front PS floor. DS is dry. Yes, I cleared the sunroof drains and cleared pinch welds in the rocker. I pour water in the drains and water runs out without delay/ front and back. The windsheild is tight does not seem to be the problem. Where is the water coming from. Door seal?
thanks

leaks are tough to diagnos. I would wait for a warm day, pull as much paneling and carpet back as you can and have someone stand outside the rig with a hose and spray it until you see the water coming in. That's how i tracked down a leak.

are you sure the windshild is not leaking? took me a long time to diagnose my leaking windshiled and was not certain until a replacemnt fixed the leak,

another source of leakage is the vapor seal under the inside door pannel,

Rav, I'll wait for a warm day, when the carpet is dry, and have someone spray the windsheild while I am in the car, and try to localize it that way. THanks for the reply guys!

I have the same problem with a wet PS carpet and I tracked it down to the sunroof. The problem only seems to happen in heavy rain. The leak seems to start within the sunroof, run along the headliner and down the molding on the PS door to the carpet. You might have the same issue. This can be determined by taking off the trim molding around the sunroof opening and carefully peering (with a flashlight) at the topside of the headliner. Mine had water stains.

I am not totally sure how the water escapes the sunroof encasement. Still working on this...

Hope this helps.

Yes me too, heavy rain also. I will try this; sounds like my problem. ;) No stain on the underside though.(cabin side)
thanks

Don't discount the windshield as the cause. Tightness has nothing to do with it. These things like to leak if they aren't fully sealed.

I have exactly the same symptoms.

I had the same problem in mine as well. The previous owner replaced the windshield right before I bought it. Search the 80’s tech section under “leaking windshield”, you will find many had the same problem. I had my windshield pulled and reinstalled. One company I spoke with would not even do the install. They were being sued by a guy in an 80 because the windshield leaked and toasted his computer. Here is the deal you MUST glue the windshield to the gasket and then glue the gasket to the car. When they pulled my windshield there was no glue between the gasket and the car. Find a shop there is willing to do it this way, stand by and make sure it is done properly. I have had no leaking since this was done. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem. I thought it was a leaky windsheild or sunroof because the rubber lining inside the headliner tends to channel water to all places of the car. Mine was a plugged up rocker panel. Which makes me feel retartded because I know that I need to check these out frequently. I had removed the plug from the back of the rocker panel to let water leak out as fast as I let it in. BUT this time I backed the truck into the driveway. the front of the rocker panel filled up and overflowed into the PS floor. Yippee!!!!!!!

my biggest tip in regards to these leak prone cars is closed cell rubber carpet pad. You find it at the home carpet shops and it is usually silver on both sides. water doesn't soak into the pad at all. simply remove carpet and dry and you won't have any mold issues with this pad. It also makes the cabin MUCH quieter.

oem windsheild

Does anyone know how I can tell if my windsheild was replace by the PO? Are there any specific mfg. markings?

A good glass shop can definitely tell you. The owner of my local shop has a 62 and he said that some manufacturer (ppg?) made a big run of these replacement windshields that were very questionable. they seemed to be a bit too small and didn't fully seat in the gasket and leaked like crazy. I finally replaced mine and when he lined them up there was a 1/4"-1/2" difference!!!!! so if you aren't the first owner and your windshiels leaks you may be better off to replace the windshield

Hey g-funk,

You're new here, huh? And helpful too! :)

Welcome,

Curtis

yeah I just signed up when I opened the pass door of my ride and a river flowed out on my feet. I've had my 80 for about 3 years and haven't had major probs but a bunch of minor ones

The easiest way to tell is to check for the Toyota mark on the glass. If it doens't say Toyota on the glass then it's been replaced. If it does say Toyota it's harder to tell if it's been replaced of not.
